Ruby brown color with aromas of lemon peel, dried appricot and raisin scone. It has a supple, frothy,medium-to-full body and sweet grain, honey roasted nut, and delicate spicy hop finish. Delicious and super drinkable. YUMMY! crossovert (13747) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 15, 2011
11.2oz green bottle. Entitled "Black Lager" for the US market.
It pours a cola brown with a fizzy off-white head, nothing new here, but it is the standard for the style, it has a bit of nice lacing.
No skunk here, it is a mild smelling brew, very reminiscent of a pilsener in the smell. It has a slight hint of roastiness along with some earthier noble hops.
The flavor is nice and bready with just a hint of roastiness, reminds me of a Munich Helles with a bit of chocolate malt included. It finishes with a nice bitterness. Just a smooth easy as hell to drink beer, a great one to session.

I am quite a fan of shwarzbiers, and while this strays a bit from the style, it is an outstanding black lager, as a schwar-doppel hybrid. Pours a dark brown with a filmy light brown top. Refreshing fragrance of malt balls and german hops play lightly. It’s been awhile since I’ve encountered these welcome smells of a fall. Tingly, dusted deep malt flavor similar to a doppel (such as Kloster ’s). Medium-bodied, hits the spot with refreshing malted medley. Lorenasa (159) - Florida, USA - JUN 11, 2011
This is a black lager. It has a nice aroma. A decent beer overall but not an outstanding beer. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 28, 2013
Draft, pours dark brown with off white head. Aroma is nutty, toasty, some dark fruit. Flavors are toasty and nutty, some acidity, caramel, minimal roast. Bitterness is firm.

* Old rating, 0,5l screw-top-bottle, best before 16.04.04. Würzig-dunkles Bier. Nette Anklänge an Röstmalz und dunkle Schokolade. Recht trocken mit einem kleinen Rest Süße für die Süffigkeit. Trocken herb-malziger und intensiver Nachgeschmack. Lecker! bhensonb (15630) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 12, 2009
Bottle that looks just like the image - from Beer Geek. Pours dark black with ruby hilites on the edges, and a frothy three-finger beige head that does a good job of lacing. Nice roasted malt aroma. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is nicely toasted/burnt malt with wonderful dried fruit notes. Finishes burnt with accompanying bitter and raisiny notes. Very nice lager. Bottle, 5.2%. Roasted and slightly dry aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Small light brown head. The flavour is roasted, not as dry as the aroma suggests. Good body, especially for the style. Rye bread notes, hint of liquorice. A good Schwarzbier. bsp77 (724) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 24, 2011
UPDATED: OCT 18, 2011 Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Dimpled Mug.
Appearance: Dark reddish-brown with moderate off-white head, settling to a thin line.
Aroma: Cocoa, caramel, cherry, straw and some spiciness.
Taste: Just barely sweet caramel, cocoa and molasses initially. Finish is more cherry-like with just a hint of metallic, spicy hops.
Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium-light body, semi-dry finish.
Overall: Decent Schwarzbier that could use a little more hops and/or depth. Pretty easy to drink overall.
