Bottle - from BOTM club. Amber - brown color. Pretty disappointed in this one. Not much flavor. Some maltines and roastiness, a bit of hops. Slight metallic taste. Surely they could have found a better German Doppelbock. HopheadHans (804) - Bay Area, California, USA - APR 1, 2008
Bottle. Not in the same league as an Einbecker for example. Pours with a copper color. Starts out nice but then becomes a bit too boozy. has some metallic notes which are distracting. lacks malt profile and also is too thin bodied. Drinkable but not very good. BOM: Everything one would expect in a dopplebock (crystal brown body, brown sugar with some nuttiness, decent carbonation) but nothing is noteworthy. I’m not upset my membership expired!!! truegen (167) - Puyallup, Washington, USA - MAR 29, 2008
12oz. bottle from beer club. Nice head, which didn’t live long. From there, looks like leather, smells like leather, and even kind of tastes like leather. I got three bottles from the club, so I’ll try another in case I got a bad one, and try to give the other away. Maybe it’ll be to someone else’s taste. It’s not to mine. Beer club selection. Poured a clear brown with an enormous head that held for a while, then left a nice film throughout the drink. Aromas of honey and grapes, and clearly some maltiness. Complex flavors, including the honey and grapes that were in the nose, plus some breads and biscuits, offset by a hoppy finish that made this a really enjoyable drink. Medium to full bodied, and more carbonation than I expected from the style. Went down awful easily for a 7.5%.

With the name of a dopplebock I expected something more. Sweet taste but average in my opinion. Head held up only for a short while. Fruit taste that seems to stand out. this was a BOM club selction haf (537) - Gijon, SPAIN - MAR 20, 2008

Appearance: Pours as brown cherry brew with small rocky white top.3-
Nose :Front welcomes you with brown sugar and plum sauce, sweet roasted grainy malts , light hop side with sweet fruity finish.6+
Flavor/Palate : Thin bodied for its strength. Simple plain sweet malts with light hint of dark rye. Weak impressions of what might have be if…sadly its not. Washed off on substance and character average dunkel bock.
Pours a dark cherry brown color with a small tan head. Not much retention and some soapy areas remain on top as well as a nice thick ring. Sugar sweet aroma. Flavor is muddled. Fruity esters, metal, toffee, and a surprising amount of hop dominate the flavor. The problem is that these don’t work well together and an unfortunate aftertaste remains. Is there bitter tomato in there? Flavor became more fruity as it warmed. Eyedrinkale (3235) - Astoria, New York, USA - FEB 29, 2008
Odd green bottle with an odd 40-ish like twist off metal cap. Big bubbled head holds up momentarily. Flavor is biscuity and alcoholic with toast and brown sugar. Theres some aluminum itn, which if it wasn’t there, would make this somewhat drinkable. The body is beautiful and the malty, nuttiness is good. Too bad.
