Light brown - Muggy Tan color has golden tint.. Sweet honey like taste that is not hard to drink at all, WOW! Maple syrup smell that stays till the end. Some lacing but lacking head because of the high abv, which was masked Very well! CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - AUG 22, 2005
On tap at the B Side: Pours a transparent copper bronze with a nicely-lacing white head. Aroma is rich caramel and toffee sweet with some hints of light fruit. Body starts sticky sweet and well-balanced with a citrusy hop presence and good complexity. Finishes full and bittersweet with nice hoppy caramel and a touch of honey. A very nice barleywine. On draught. It has an orange/amber color with a nice white head. The aroma is nice & malty with plenty of hops & sweetness still coming through after the aging. It has some delicious caramel and toffee flavors coming through especially as it warms. STILL delicious, would be very interesting to try again next year, too. Excellent beer. Tap. Nose is very sharp and not as malty and sweet as I am used to in a barleywine. Taste-sweetness is almost non-existent. Very bitter up front without a sweetness to balance it. The end has an unpleasant almost garbage like taste. Too one sided and simple to be a winner. Very raw and unrefined. fly (1486) - austin, Tejas, Texas, USA - JUN 28, 2005
Me likeee - more hops to go with the thick, sweet malt. Chew, chew. And as much as I love barleywines, I’m often reluctant to have one here as it diminished my ability to have more of the other fare and give it the proper attention - that and when I have them at home I can sink into the couch and not care when or if I get up. Here, I generally want more and more as was the case with this. Thank goodness I wasn’t driving.

Pours a clear amber color with a thick sticky head and a lacing. Nice malt and some floral in the nose. Very smooth and creamy texture. Nice balanced hop bite with lots of malt to back it up. Very warming and yet it is hard to tell how high the alcohol level is. Very nice barley wine. AceOfHearts (1374) - Mountain View, California, USA - MAR 2, 2005
Tap. Amber, clear. Very sweet and rich aroma, complex brown sugar presence. Thick and heavy, lasting mouthfeel. Overall I liked this a lot better than the 03. Maple syrup, rum - incredibly rich, almost like Jadwiga mead’s little brother. I’m assuming that there is a lot more alcohol in there than I’m tasting, as well. Outstanding! Had on tap at the B-Sides - waitress assured me that it was different than the ’03 Bullethead Barley Wine they had there last week - good, because it tastes different to me! Pours a dark orange to light amber with a thick and creamy off white head - thick, sticky lacing coats the snifter well. Aroma has some rum and raisin notes with a bit of a citrusy back end. Flavor has much more of a hop presence than their other barley wines and is well balanced. The malt presents itself in the form of some raisin and rum notes with a brief hint of of chocolate. The hoppiness is represented well with some west coast hoppy grapefruit notes. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy and this one stays strong to the finish. Much improved over 2003.
