Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a deep brown nearly black color with a one finger head of a cream colored foam. The head has a great level of retention, holding on for quite some time before fading to leave tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a roasted malt smell along with strong showing of a grapefruit hop and a little bit of a coffee smell. Some lighter pine and chocolate aromas are there as well with these mixing with some caramel to create a very smooth and delicious hoppy dark aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a nice blend of sweet, roast, and malt. The taste begins with a moderate roastiness which maintains its strength throughout the taste. The hop upfront is largely of a grapefruit nature with some hints of pine mixed within. The pine grows stronger in intensity as the taste advances and is joined by a little bit of an earthy taste as well. Right from the start there are also some caramel and chocolate flavors, which start out stronger and fade ever so slightly toward the end. With the transitions that occur during the taste, one is left with a rather nicely balanced and roasted flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is rather average overall. For the style the thicker body is fantastic for the darker and hoppier flavors of the brew all while the moderate carbonation is perfect for the sweeter flavors and for keeping it easier drinking overall.
Overall – This was a very easy drinking and enjoyably balanced black IPA. One to certainly try if you get the opportunity!!

Pours fairly dark with a light oatmeal colored head. Head is fairly foamy with a few larger bubbles mixed in. Aroma of hops, citrus and pine. A pretty appealing aroma, really. Beer is pretty clean in the mouth, with a light citrus flavor nicely complemented by hop bitterness. The flavor is probably a bit more one note than some IPAs, as it is lacking some of the body and sweetness often found in this style. So this is closer to a dark IPA than a hoppy stout. Draft at the Montana Brwers Fest in Missoula. Pretty much black color, brown head. Aroma of chocolate covered pine needles. Taste is bitter and roasty, nice combo. rproff78 (177) - - JUN 1, 2014

Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is pretty roasty up front, but has a nice hop bitterness coming off in the smell. Taste is reasonably bitter, but with a near sour taste to it. Roasty, but only ok. Beerdrinker79 (2188) - Idaho, USA - JAN 25, 2013
22 oz. bottle- Pours mostly black with red highlights and a one finger mocha colored head that disappears fairly quickly leaving a blanket of creamy foam. The aroma is hops, Pacific Northwest hops, piney and resinous. The taste is a nice blend of chocolate malt and those NW hops, tasty. Body is medium, carbonation is high. Overall this was good, I enjoyed the hops the most, and blended with the chocolate malt nicely. Sledutah (7521) - Utah, USA - JAN 1, 2013

Appearance: Pours dark brown with a mediums sized beige head and good lacing
Aroma: Pine, roast malts and floral
Taste: Roasted malts, caramel and pine resin
A decent black IPA, thin at times.
Pours very dark, with a whitish tan head. Aroma of hops. Tasts is also very hoppy with notes of more complex malts underneath. While IPAs are not my favorite, this one is pretty good. Thumbs up. reebtogi (6267) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 26, 2012
650ml bottle pours almost black on color with a 2 finger off-white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted grains and chocolate with some citrus and herbal notes. Taste is a herbal and citrusy hop bitterness with an underlying chocolate sweetness and light roast bitterness. A really nice IPA that is a surprisingly great tasting experience.
