Draft at the Montana Brwers Fest in Missoula. Pretty much black color, brown head. Aroma of chocolate covered pine needles. Taste is bitter and roasty, nice combo. bhensonb (15191) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 24, 2012
UPDATED: MAY 26, 2014 Bomber from Brewforia. Good to be #10! Pours very dark brown with a frothy 3 finger light tan head. Mild cat piss aroma. Med body. Strong cat piss, aka citrus, flavor over some slightly burnt malt. It’s so hoppy it’s astringent - or maybe that’s the burnt malt. Cleans the nasal passages - good stuff. Good stuff on repeat. Bottle. Everything about this brew makes it the best offering yet from the Bitter Root Brewing Company, from the label art to the beer itself. Hazy dark brown with a light brown head that laces the glass nicely. Aroma is very piney and fresh, and given time, some chocolates notes come forward. Fresh piney foresty hops steal the show, with dark malts underlying. Solid bitter finish. Excellent! phaleslu (10247) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 20, 2012
Draft at Montana Ale Works, served in a pint glass. Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head that laces the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, earthy and citrusy hops, chocolate, and burnt toast. Flavor of chocolate, citrusy and earthy hops, bitter roast, and ash. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a roasty mouthfeel that finishes bitter. The hops are pretty subtle here; more roasty like a stout. But I liked it a lot anyway. 3fourths (9345) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - NOV 26, 2010
draft. deep brown. juicy, resinous hop nose: grapefruit, pine needles and orange oil. medium body, medium to heavy toasted malt up front with
mild roast across the back. juicy and resinous hop oils leave a tingling numbness on the tongue. medium+ dryness. very clean throughout, and very fresh.

Appearance: Pours dark brown with a mediums sized beige head and good lacing
Aroma: Pine, roast malts and floral
Taste: Roasted malts, caramel and pine resin
A decent black IPA, thin at times.
650ml bottle pours almost black on color with a 2 finger off-white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is light roasted grains and chocolate with some citrus and herbal notes. Taste is a herbal and citrusy hop bitterness with an underlying chocolate sweetness and light roast bitterness. A really nice IPA that is a surprisingly great tasting experience. riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - OCT 8, 2012
Nose of citrus, pine, tropical fruit, spruce, roasted malts, a little caramel and ash. Pours dark brown, some reddish hues, thin tan head. Flavors of citrus, pine, spruce, tropical fruity hops, roasted malts, caramel, ash, a little charred but with sweetness that balances. Nice fruity finish. Sharp and crisp hoppy finish. A nice Black IPA. TimE (5816) - Tokyo, JAPAN - DEC 28, 2011
Very dark brown color. Grapefruity, roasted malts, a touch of mocha in the nose. The mouth has tons of roasted malts with great dark fruit character with just some minor note of citrus. Full bodied, excellent balance. Very enjoyable. Light bitter finish with lingering citrus. nearbeer (5417) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 25, 2011
22 oz, labeled "Last Cast" Black IPA. I assume this is the same beer. Nose is coffee, grapefruit, resin and juicy orange. Taste is the same with some ash and cocoa as well. Medium-to-heavy body is slightly sticky, but well dried by the hops and the lightly astringent roast.
