BJ’s Abbey Normal® is what the Belgian’s call a Dubbel (or Double Ale), which is the most popular style of Abbey Ale. This historic beer style is traditionally brewed by Trappist Monks in Belgium. A full-bodied, light brown ale with a fruity flavor profile, the unique bouquet of fruit and spice comes from fermentation with an authentic Trappist yeast.

16 Fl OZ ($3.99) had this with my dinner and ordered it being the beer junkie I had to try it. it wasn’t half bad. I like the choice of hops which set it apart from most of the other USA abbey wannabes. It was good and seemed very fresh. I would order again.

Good, not great. Amber pour with white head. Aroma is candied malt and citruS. Taste follows nose, but feels more watery than an average belgium.

Beer pairing dinner #5. I’m not a big fan of Belgian beer, but this is pretty good. Floral hops. Strong malt finish.

Tap at bjs columbus. Pour red amber with little off white head. Nose is fruit ester and floral. Light bodied and thin for the style even. Hints of raisin and fruit with the normal floral tastes coming thru. Was hopeful but wasn't blown away.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2015 Draft at their Frederick, MD brewpub served in a footed pils glass; hazy light brown color with light tan head. Aroma of fruity yeast, light spices, some bubblegum and caramel. Taste adds notes of toast, toffee, dried fruits (apricots, raisins), some nuttiness and light earthy hop bitterness. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation, crisp with faint roast yeasty finish. Nice session dubbel.

Dogbrick (13012) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 4, 2015
Sample at the Columbus location. Clear brownish-amber color with a medium light beige head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of fruit, malt and yeast. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, dark fruit and earthy yeast. The finish is sweet with a fruity aftertaste. Decent overall.
