This was incredibly rich and tasty. Definitely the best out of everything that I tried. Their is a definite nuttiness that you notice right away,a nd I love that, great malty milk chocolate flavor with some mellow roastiness that just fades right into this full rich velvety mouthfeel. Actually not bad. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark black brown color with a medium sized light brown head. Noes is roasted and sweet. Taste is nice and malty, roasted, sweet, and creamy. Good clean finish, and very drinkable. Doesn’t blow me away but it is well crafted. Bockyhorsey (2628) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - APR 24, 2007
Tap @ Mesa,Az location. Sweet malt aroma with some grainy oats. Black body with tan head. Had a decent cold coffee flavor and medium sweet roast and left a toffee aftertaste on the palate. Chalk board had this listed as 6% and server couldn’t tell me if there was any other name attched to just Oatmeal Stout as on board. So this looks like a good spot.

Pours black, with tan head. Smell is really strong and charred, roasty ashy dark malt. Taste is similar with very dark, borderline burnt roasty malt and an ashy finish. Carbonation is too high and prickly however. Softens as it warms, and the flavor is pretty nice, but no oatmeal creamy smoothness. Overall, definitely one of the better if not best BJs beers I’ve had. OhioDad (2492) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - APR 3, 2007
Pint at the brewpub in Columbus Ohio location - Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head that fades quick. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and some caramel. Flavor is equal. Good roasted malts with chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Lots of carbonation gives this an overall fizzy mouthfeel that turned me off some. Other than that it was a pretty fair Oatmeal stout..

Draft at La Mesa store. Black with a really nice tan head that left outsanding lacing. Aromas of chocolate and dust. Some coffee to accompany the chocolate in the flavor. A touch of metal. But overall pretty good. troopie (2341) - Munchen an der Willamette, Oregon, USA - OCT 28, 2006
Alcohol nose, I was ready to dislike this beer. then I tasted it. It had a strong oatmeal note, like a warm breakfast, with roast malt, and bittersweet chocolat. A lingering finish with a nice hoppiness. Dark colour and a tan head. GG (2332) - NorCal, California, USA - FEB 28, 2008
Pretty decent beer on tap. Aroma offers some coffee notes and a bit of dark chocolate. Appearance was black, with a barely noticeable head that I couldn’t get to get thicker no matter how much I swirled the shaker. Mouthfeel was smooth. Flavor was pretty simple with dark chocolate and coffee. Got much better as it warmed up. BJ’s always serves up their beers too damned cold. Panzuriel (2256) - Westerville, Ohio, USA - JUN 10, 2007
Very deep brown. Thin head. Nose of sweet malt and hints of caramel. Coffee and oats on taste. mouthfeel was very full. Nice beer, lacking in some depth, I would say.

nice black pour with a thick head. roasty nose without much else. tastes how the nose makes me expect. thin and watery. but "thin" ain’t necessarily bad, so many impy’s have made me think of unrefined crude as thin, so take it with a grain of salt. caramel and chocolate flavors emerge once this thing warms a bit. light coffee and burnt wood work well in the finish. probably responsible for my antics that followed once i was ready to go home, it couldn’t be the tripel, the maibock, or the gods know what else i drank’s fault
