On tap at BJ’s Arcadia. Little head. Dark brew, nice roasty aroma. Strong roasted malt flavor, some residual mild bitterness. Smooth, but not as smooth as some oatmeal stouts. beerguy101 (5360) - Newark, California, USA - JUL 22, 2003
Tasted at the Eugene Oregon resteraunt. This chain's beer quality tends to very from facility to facility so..
Dark Black color. Medium creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee and CHOCOLATE. The chocolate in the aroma is really outstanding. A medium bodied stout. Malts are roasted, coffee and chocolate, slightly sweet. Hops are slightly spicy. Nicely balanced, lighter bodied Oatmeal Stout. Not as much chocolate taste in the flavor as I would expect from the aroma, yet more of the oatmeal flavor is noticeable in the taste than the aroma. Very smooth and a touch sweet, as expected. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. It’s a little weird that the special brew of the month of July is an Oatmeal Stout! fordest (2470) - Santee/San Diego, California, USA - FEB 25, 2007
Draft at La Mesa store. Black with a really nice tan head that left outsanding lacing. Aromas of chocolate and dust. Some coffee to accompany the chocolate in the flavor. A touch of metal. But overall pretty good. OhioDad (2492) - Hilliard, Ohio, USA - APR 3, 2007
Pint at the brewpub in Columbus Ohio location - Pours dark brown with a creamy tan head that fades quick. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and some caramel. Flavor is equal. Good roasted malts with chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Lots of carbonation gives this an overall fizzy mouthfeel that turned me off some. Other than that it was a pretty fair Oatmeal stout.. Draft sampler at the Columbus. Poured a dark brown color with a medium off-white frothy head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium smokey toasted malty aroma. Medium body. Medium roasted sweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of average duration. Solid drinkable brew.

Actually not bad. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark black brown color with a medium sized light brown head. Noes is roasted and sweet. Taste is nice and malty, roasted, sweet, and creamy. Good clean finish, and very drinkable. Doesn’t blow me away but it is well crafted. lb4lb (2587) - Austin, Texas, USA - MAY 10, 2008
Pours black, with tan head. Smell is really strong and charred, roasty ashy dark malt. Taste is similar with very dark, borderline burnt roasty malt and an ashy finish. Carbonation is too high and prickly however. Softens as it warms, and the flavor is pretty nice, but no oatmeal creamy smoothness. Overall, definitely one of the better if not best BJs beers I’ve had. mar (5415) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 18, 2008
black pour with a creamy tan head. sweet malts on the nose with a tiny bit of coffee. not a bad mouthfeel actually. quite creamy and sweet. not a bad brew from these guys. KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - MAY 27, 2008

Pours a deep black with an off-ivory head. Nose is chocolate coffee with a touch of roasted nut. Flavor is dry chocolate powder with a coffee-barley wine finish. Average mouthfeel. Pretty good.
Pretty decent beer on tap. Aroma offers some coffee notes and a bit of dark chocolate. Appearance was black, with a barely noticeable head that I couldn’t get to get thicker no matter how much I swirled the shaker. Mouthfeel was smooth. Flavor was pretty simple with dark chocolate and coffee. Got much better as it warmed up. BJ’s always serves up their beers too damned cold.
