4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Wow. caramel, sweet malt, chocolate, molasses- The high alcohol is completely masked by the sweet satisfying flavor. This is a great drinking porter! Don’t let the price fool you! This is inexpensive excellence. And, a FULL PINT of easy drinking 9.4 ABV for a little over a buck and a half is really a "no-brainer".
smager meget af lakrids, der er ingen humle smag. Den første slurk er næsten ren sukker. bellco33 (835) - Willington, Connecticut, USA - MAY 25, 2017
Poured from a bottle into a pint glass: Pours dark brown / black with almost no head. Aroma of molasses, roasted malt, raisins. Taste is more of the same, very thick, sweet, but with good flavor. Sip it slowly. Little carbonation, heavy body, a bit cloying, very sticky. It’s alright. meccahh69lol (326) - New Haven, Connecticut, USA - JAN 26, 2017
There is some division in this household around this beer. One’s perfectly adequate, cheap, high ABV baltic porter is another’s "garbage water". While the merits of each opinion must lie in the beholder’s eye, one cannot disagree that this beer is pretty easy to come by (at least on the east coast, it can pop up in corner bodegas that have otherwise small selections) and the price is right (I’ve purchased 16.9 oz bottles from $1.40 to $2 over the years). We do agree that it smells good and looks nice. The flavor is thick with burnt molasses and a long syrupy aftertaste. It tastes better the more you drink it, but it doesn’t exactly beg you to chug it down either. Anyway, It’s worth a shot if you see it around and like thicker beers like stouts and porters, but if you’re not already a fan, this won’t convert you. katrinaez (2196) - norristown, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 4, 2017
Very flat, no carbonation. Heavy molasses and syrupy quality, even more as it warmed. Dark black to brown. Thick. Bottle Travlr (25876) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - NOV 7, 2016
Bottle shared with Couchsurfers Eric and Griff, cheers! Clear deep amber brown color, tan head. Nice aroma of burnt brownies, licorice, espresso. Taste is licorice and chocolate. Very nice.

Portland, Or - Beaumont Market - 500 ml bottle. Sparkling, dark brown pour, bubbly, long lasting mocha head. Rich chocolate and molasses in the aroma. Bold flavor, anise seed, milk chocolate, some molasses. Mouthfeel is thinner than the flavor warrants. Darwenus (1159) - Virginia, USA - SEP 26, 2016
Not the best baltic porter I’ve had (my preference is for Smuttynose’s version of the style), but this is still a pretty good beer. It pours dark brown with a fair amount of head. The aroma is not strong but it’s appetizing. Some anise, a little espresso, a faint bit of citrus. The flavor is coffee and sweet malt on the front, and it closes with some milk chocolate notes and a hint of cherries, kind of a Dr. Pepper thing that I often notice in Baltic porters and bocks. The high ABV is there in the flavor, but it isn’t medicinal or synthetic. In my area this beer is inexpensive, which effects my overall score in a very positive way. Aromas of burnt coffee, and sharp dark chocolate notes. Flavors of burnt coffee, the dark chocolate and some nuttiness round out the taste. A unusual sweet flavor disappeared as it warmed, overall it was a pretty decent porter, and the price was pretty good. Originally rated on 11/25/08. TEJA (3202) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - AUG 11, 2016

Lasting brown head. Clear dark red brown color. Fruity and madrification in the aroma. Big caramell taste. Low sweetness and a complex taste profile. Big body. tfontana (1094) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - AUG 9, 2016
Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Manchester Wine & Liquors. Appearance is clear mahogany with light sparkle, 2-finger width light brown foamy head with decent retention and sudsy lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark toast, hints of coffee and dark fruit. Taste is dark chocolate, dark fruit, mild European hop bitterness. Palate is full bodied with decadent creamy texture, soft carbonation and dark fruit/dark chocolate finish with late warmth in stomach. Overall, a nice beer that is sweet but not cloying and a silky mouthfeel. Nice.
