Bottle at GBBF 2006. I hadn’t realised the strength of this. Very deep ruby colour with some nice raisins and a bit of caramel. Bit milky. Amazing dark dried fruit in the mouth. Dark burgundy brown. Rich malt aroma w/ almond cake, light molasses, raisin, plum, dark chocolate, peach. Sweet, silky malt flavours, vietnamese coffee, fruity (apricot, orange) notes. Very dark ruby, creamy expresso head. Burnt malt aroma, slightly sugary - a bit similar to Zywiec Porter. Medium-bodied. Cold coffee, salted licorice powder. Soft palate - hides alcohol very well (actually some kick from alcohol would do good), good malty base but hop profile is weak. Far from complex and interesting Zywiec.
Bottled. Reddish, dark brown with a beige head. Roasted aroma with fruitiness, pear, and some alcohol. Quite weak aroma, and quite weak flavor, with chocolate and coffee dominating. It has some alcohol in the finish, but it is in general well hidden. Quite pleasant beer. (060616)

Black pour with a khaki head. Smells like burnt grains and popcorn. Acidic coffee, chocolate, and burnt sugar. Maybe a bit of bile. Bread and tons of overly roasted malt. Date and raisin aroma. Rich roast, dry burnt corners. Piles of raisin in the taste. finish has loads of grains as well as the roast. Good one. A touch heavy though.

Aroma of toasted dark malt. Nearly opaque dark brown color with a tan head that is substantial. A bit thin in body. Starts with coffee, followed by toffee. Definite toffee candy sweet. The finish is not dry, and the toffee flavor persists. Interesting, but something of a one note. Not that there might not be hidden complexity, just not obvious to me. Bottle (Lars). Dark brown (almost black) - offwhite head. Raisins, plums, coffee, licorice, brown sugar, butter. It could have been very good.
