UPDATED: SEP 18, 2007 this is a truly excellent Porter that has a wonerful smokey character yet goes down smooth and is very pleasing to the palate PolishHammer (124) - Norwalk, Connecticut, USA - DEC 21, 2008
Very dark brown, almost black. Strong chocolate and coffee notes. Alcohol flavor hidden very well. A very sweet tasting porter, with a lot of unfermented sugars. Somewhat buttery. IIt feels like 9.4 ABV after you drink one! Overall, a very tasty, sweet porter, with not much bitterness. BT (123) - Westchester, Illinois, USA - OCT 6, 2005
Poured a beautiful black with mahogany and cherry hues, almost competely no head. aroma of alcohol, malts, fruit. Mouth was a bit dry. portermax55 (118) - Canterbury, Connecticut, USA - NOV 6, 2007
500mL bottle into pint glass. Pours a dark brown with a light grey head. Heavy aromas of sweet fruit and roasted malts with a hint of spice. Flavor is of plums, fruit and malts with a slight coffee-like finish. Mouthfeel is light and drinkable. My only complaint was there could have been more carbonation, but that may have been due to the age of the bottle I purchased. chokmah33 (118) - San Luis Obispo, California, USA - APR 6, 2008
UPDATED: MAY 10, 2008 Aromas of banana, yeasty bread, and definite alcohol.
Taste is nutty like a brown. A sweet prune flavor and a mealy malt finish. Definitely dosnít taste like it has 9.4%

This is a legitimately decent beer. Itís price, and price/%abv belies this fact, but this is a nice beer. A little roastier and a little less winey than some of its comparable baltic porters, which I guess makes it a more conventional porter, but thatís not a bad thing. The palate is a bit thin, and the taste can, on occasion be too, but itís hard to go wrong with the Boss. For 1.25 a half liter, at 9.4%, this is the deal of the recession. k9coug (116) - USA - JAN 9, 2010
I believe a porter should be thin and easy to drink, and gives the ability to drink several in a session. At 9.4 abv. that wouldnít be advisable. Good beer for the price. Almost no head and a heavy burnt flavor with a strong initial taste that improves to th bottom of the glass. phillybass (115) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 25, 2013
An excellent example of a true porter. Plenty of toasty malt flavor and aroma. Dark red in color. No head. Round palate.

Pours a very dark reddish hue. Almost black. Hints of black cherry and licorice. Quite a potent porter, but not overpowering. Surprisingly sweet. A somewhat burnt aftertaste ruins the moment, but overall, this is a delicious beer.
