4 oz. taster at the source. Poured dark brown with a small tan head. Surprisingly huge pine resin aroma with roasted malt and tobacco. Flavor is roast, bakers chocolate and light coffee, but the big surprise is the pine resin hop flavor. If I were tasting this blind, I’d of called it a Black IPA. Full bodied with a bitter finish. Very nice. VTHopHead (1511) - Seymour, Tennessee, USA - JAN 18, 2014
Draft at the brewery. Dark, black with a decent roastly/hoppy aroma. Pretty good as a sample... maybe should have had a bigger one snoworsummer (5959) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 27, 2013
Draft at the brewery. Pours very dark brown with a thin beige head. Tastes like earth, resin, mild coffee, with hints of fermenting fruit. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like earth, straw, light smoke, and light fruit. sonnycheeba (6259) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 27, 2013

On tap at Cask and Vine,
Arrives at my bar stool a bit on the cold side, so I took my time with this one. Solid black pour with a decent sized off white head that persists for a bit. Aromas of roasted coffee, dark bitter chocolate, and earthy citrusy hops dominate the aroma. Light pitted fruits and a hint of vanilla round out the nose. The flavor follows the aroma. Highly hopped roasty chocolate with bits of dark pitted fruits drizzled about. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a lightly creamy mouthfeel. Nice brew, I really enjoyed this. SrSilliGose (3331) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - NOV 24, 2013
Milky creamy chocolate cocoa roast. Some citrus hop presence. Dry and clean. Solid. puboflyons (3467) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 3, 2013
From the 750- ml. growler. dark brown to black pour with a silky tan head that lingers and laces. Fascinating aroma of earthy and pine resin hops up front rather than chocolate and dark malts which seem to take a back seat on the nose. The body is light to medium. The taste tends to highlight the chocolate notes with the earthy hopes emerging afterwards more and more and a mild lingering bitterness. Draft @ Blue Lobster. Thin tan head over black liquid in the sample glass. Nice aroma of pine hops and chocolate malt. Flavor is mostly the same, light lingering pine bitterness. Hints of coffee and ash. Texture is smooth with correct level of carbonation. Could be real easy to drink large amounts of this.
