bottle pours oil slick black, thin khaki head that fades. bourbon nose, some vanilla too. the chocolate really stands out in this one. milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cocoa. not much vanilla in the mouth. slick bourbon finish. full body. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - MAY 25, 2013
22 oz. bomber purchased at the brewery. No vintage on bottle. It pours a dark brown/cola color with a decent tan head. The aroma is pretty nice with lots of cocoa, lighter notes of vanilla and some sweet caramel that I’m guessing is the bourbon influence since I don’t remember getting that from the regular version. A little bit of phenols come out as you swirl the glass that keeps this from being really nice. The flavor is pleasant enough with a cola sweetness (that I do remember from the regular version) caramel, and some barrel char and bourbon near the finish. Decent vanilla notes as well. I wish there was more of the cacao in the flavor. The body is a bit on the thin side, but I don’t really mind as it helps the drinkability. Not superb, but I can dig this… no sweat. Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Light bourbon and malt aroma with light chocolate. Light chocolate and light bourbon lingers with malt. Medium bodied. Light bourbon lingers with light chocolate and light malt. Needs more barrel time.
