Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival on the 20th April 2017. Cask, gravity dispense. Ruby black in colour with a thin pale buff head. Malty aroma with a hint of smoked grain. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malt gives a moist maltloaf base with notes of liquorice and dark chocolate and surprisingly a fruity damson flavour! There is a slight hop prickle present in the short bitter aftertaste but this is very short lived. Malt returns in the finish with slightly drier notes of roast grain, dark chocolate and liquorice. Bottle from Fountainhall Wines. Pours clear dark, dark vibrant ruby. Nose has gentle smokiness with treacle toffee and sweet dark fruits. Taste follows nose but has an ever present earthiness. The palate has a soft but light body with a dry gentle to moderate sparkle. Superb treacle and fruit notes with a smoky earthiness that provides balance rather than overpowers. Bottled 330ml. -from 8 a Huit Val Thorens. Almost black coloured, medium sized pale beige head, slightly buttery roasty nose. Roasted malt, chocolate, filter coffee and touch of fruits with short dry roasty finish. Lack of body is evident. Bubeer (442) - - JAN 10, 2017

Black colour with some reddish hints if seen through light. Good and dense light mocha coloured head. Shows good retention and nice lacing. Aroma has roasted malts, coffee and red fruits. Ok but not that intense. Taste follows the aroma. Bitter and sweet notes are balanced in terms of intensity but not very well integrated. Medium bodied with light carbonation, slightly silky texture. Ok, but modest.

Cask at Jeremiah´s Taproom Edinburgh on the 11/08/2016. Dark brown colour with a small disappearing brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and smoked chocolate. Pours black with a thin tan head subsiding slowly. Scent is Chocolate and nice roasted And very much peaty malt. Taste is cereal malt, light cocoa, maybe a little orange. Grass. Mouth feel is water. Great.
