On tap at the brewpub. Pours a darker golden, clear, with a white head. Juicy grapefruit and orange citrus hop aroma with pine. Flavor is juice and sticky grapefruit and pine hoppiness. Really great stuff. Something must have changed in the years since this was last rated! kevinator (2176) - The Colony, Texas, USA - JAN 25, 2014
Easy to drink with food. Mild hop aroma with some pine and citrus. It had an amber color with a small head. It had an average weight mouth feel with a crispness on the finish. It wasn’t hoppy enough to fall under the India pale ale category but a pretty good blend of flavors. However, there was a harsh bitterness at the end that was a little too sharp. A decent offering. paintedmaple (671) - People’s Republic of Bloomington, Indiana, USA - SEP 9, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 18, 2014 Black Lotus’ beers are far below average and their IPA is one their best because it is just below average...one one of the few drinkable beers they make. Update: tried this again and it look like a glass of pea soup with crud floating in it...disgusting. JaBier (7871) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - JUL 26, 2011
Sample at the brewpub on 7/23/11. Clear amber/copper pour with a thin off-white head. Floral hop aroma with pale and amber malts. Malty flavor with floral hops, slight pine and a grapefruit finish. papsdatank (47) - Michigan, USA - JUL 22, 2011
Pours a clear golden color with a thick white head, not too bad, the aroma is citrus and piney hops, the taste is decent but not remarkable, it doesn’t have the balance I look for in a great IPA, it’s a little one dimensional. The palate is a little thin for my liking but not bad it is at least refreshing. All in all this isn’t bad, but uninspired, they were a little safe on this one.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear orange with a thick white head. Aroma of citrus, hop oils, and caramel malt. Flavor of citrus and floral hops -- this had a very nice hop character and was plenty hopped for an APA (that’s what it was labeled at the brewpub, although it certainly tasted more like an IPA). A solid hoppy pale ale and probably their best offering.

i’m not that experienced with IPA’s, and maybe a lot of them just taste the same to me. i thought this was drinkable. the only beer they had on tap that actually had any bite. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - APR 12, 2010
Lost my notes on this one. This was, however, much better than expected. Although my tasting was at a festival, during the consumption of several beers. Alas, my scribbles are illegible, but the numbers stand Braudog (6675) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - JAN 29, 2010
Draft pint at the brewpub. Golden amber with a sudsy head. The beer is taken over by a bit of tea-leaf character, along with a flat corny malt. Not horrible, but not real good. (#3820, 1/26/2010) gearbike (512) - West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA - SEP 30, 2009
On tap at brewpub. A bit of an orange hue but rather clear. Very light and thin but drinkable. Almost seems like two different beers in one. Drinks like a rather flavorless pale ale but has a strong finish/aftertaste of grapefruit type hops.
