bottle pours dark brown, multiple pours to get a full glass from the big khaki head. sweet malt, vanilla, cocoa, bourbon near finish. right amount of barrel. full body.
Bottle. Almost black with an inch of light tan head that never gives up. Aroma of whisky and caramel flavoured ice cream syrup, sweet bread dough, vanilla. It’s nit unpleasant but it’s crude & threatens to be scarily sweet. But not at all. Just north of medium bodied, moderate carbonation. There’s some layered toffee and chocolate tinged sweetness but it’s juxtaposed rather than held in check by the mildly spiced and barely citric bitterness. Not bad at all, let down by the aroma. vanvenlo (1883) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - JUL 20, 2017

Bottle shared at the 2015 edition of the chriso Pre-GBBF tasting - London. Cheers! Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. The nose holds toasted brown bread, light yeast and brown sugar. Medium sweet flavour with more bready malts, light chocolate, alcohol, dark fruits. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet on the finish, lightly warming, with continuing notes of dark bread and cocoa. Good stuff.

At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Darkest brown, almost back, and opaque. Head lifts up to a good inch and holds; a tannish sheen of tight bubbles that laces well. Nose is thick and complex hinting at rum & raisin icecream, savoury fruit mince, Worcestershire sauce, vanillin, whisky essence and chocolate coated liquorice. A different monster on the palate. Viscous, smooth finish with plenty of higher alcohols making it quite hot. Whisky is pronounced with an earthy, topsoil edge. Caramel and soft fudge notes build along with a bitter, burnt fruit backend that lasts long into the swallow. Quite a warming ale. It drinks well but is not entirely uniform. Would love to see how a fresh one compares. Not too shabby!! (22fl.Oz, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
22oz bottle 8/8/15 (Pear Delicatessen)-Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, nutty, and whiskey. Taste of the same with some vanilla coming in. This full bodied brew is god but I was expecting better. Ferris (15270) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 5, 2016
Bottle - Dark malts, some soured dark chocolate. Jet brown with a nice light brown. Dark bitter and roasts, bitter and long finish. Gushed and almost exploded, not sure it’s tasting as intended. Benzai (15606) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - MAR 3, 2016
