COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smoked quadruple India pale ale

This quadruple, smoked IPA is just the ticket to do the job. The smokey flavor and aromatics are from American hardwood smoked malts, and adds just the right qualities to stand up to our piney and resinous experimental hops. The 12.7% ABV packs a punch, so try pouring into a brandy snifter and slowly enjoying it as it warms.

Sample at the brewpub. Hazy copper color with a medium white head that recedes gradually to a film. Stringy lacing. Aroma of smoked malt, citrus and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, citrusy hops and pine. The finish is smokey with a malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

haven’t had a smoked ipa in a loooong while and never had one anywhere near this big. this ended being more restrained than expected. Big, but almost totally covering up any hint that the abv is WELL into double digits. Sweet citrus and pine mix with a moderate to heavy smoke character that is pleasant throughout. Mildly to moderately bitter and pleasant.

glennmastrange (2899) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - AUG 30, 2016
Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt aromas of cereal, nutty and roasted, moderate cooked orange for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with notes of date, brown sugar, toffee and faint smoke. Head is small, frothy, off-white with some slippery lacing and good legs, and is mostly lasting. Color is murky medium reddish brown. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is full, syrupy with a soft to lively carbonation and finishes lightly astringent and moderately alcoholic. Nice deep malt presence with good hop balance.

ttoadee (1550) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUL 11, 2016
Light brown pour, decent tan head. Nose is medium smoked malt. Middle shows slightly sweet malt with more smoke. Finish is vaguely of smoked brisket. Interesting and strong.

Arayaga2 (2218) - portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 18, 2016
Rusty brown, with an inch of off-white head. Aroma is oxidized malt and citrus, with some pineapple and grapefruit. Taste is the same, but up-front smoky phenolics. Not too much, it’s relatively drinkable for something reminiscent of a hawaiian smoked pig. $8/22oz

Tulip glass at brewery. Sweet sap aroma. Clear copper. Strong malty sap, hop bomb finish, wow this is strong. Alcohol finish. Medium body.

Hazy and a medium amber. Aroma is mostly sweet, sugary hop, diacetyl and smoke. Big diacetyl, smoke, some light hop, sweet and sticky. Flavour overload covers their faults a bit.

Bottle - Sweet, citrus and smoky manure. Cloudy copper with a small white. Smokey, sweet caramel and citrus. Not the train wreck I expected, actually pretty decen once you get into it.

fiulijn (21022) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 30, 2016
Bottle from The Beer Junction, Seattle
Hazy dark amber color. The smoke is quite strong, meaty; the malt backbone is strong, caramelly, sweet; strong resiny bitterness, and strong alcohol feeling.
Good, but extreme, and very weird.
