[4657-20120815] Tap. Stale cigarette smoke and nutty brown wood aroma. Slightly hazy, dark red amber body with a quick foamy white head. Cigarette ashes and nutty wood flavour follows with a spicy peppery kick in the finish. Medium body has a hot finish. Interesting, I’m getting a lot of cigarette ash, not so much mocha, but has a fun kicking finish. (7/3/6/3-/13) 3.2

Clear brown pour, small white head. Big aroma of cocoa, herbs, and some slight spice. soft mouthfeel, and soft carb. On cask. Clear very dark amber spongy tan head. Aroma is mostly dark chocolate with hints of coffee and citrus. Smells like those chocolates with orange licqueur that people eat at Christmas. Not much pepper on the nose. Light oily mouthfeel, pretty sweet. Medium finish has a dash of peppery zip, but still not getting a lot of the jalapeño. Didn’t blow me away. 2012-08-15. Lightly hazy mahogany brown with a modest beige head. Dry roasty coffee and bitter dark chocolate in the first sip are quickly eclipsed by a healthy dose of hot peppery jalapeño. Muted sweet malt in the middle of subsequent sips, then a return of the pepper that lingers with a modest burn long into the aftertaste. Average to thin bodied palate is under carbonated for my preference. 2+ Very dry aroma of espresso with hints of 98% cocoa chocolate. 6+ Eventually the peppers start to level off to a slow burn in the second half, allowing the more subtle nuances to come through but I am already kind of done with it at that point. Pretty rough stuff if like me you aren’t a big hot pepper fan, probably quite an interesting melange of these flavours if you are. On cask at Volo, Toronto
