UPDATED: JUN 4, 2008 Matt7215 hooked my up with this beer. Pours black with a medium beige head. The aroma is mostly coffee and light malts. The taste was really quite nice; smooth roasted malts, rich coffee and chocolate, vanilla, and light cherries. A very nice and smooth body, sweet finish. Very enjoyable. Cask at C’est What. Deep black pour topped by a tight creamy head. The aroma is lovely. Rich cocoa, dark chocolate and light roast. Similar palate with just a touch of tartness that I can only assume is from the cherry. Not a whole lot of fruitiness or real cherry flavour. It’s nice, but I don’t think I’d peg it as a fruit- flavoured beer. solidfunk (9444) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - MAR 3, 2012
UPDATED: SEP 19, 2012 smells a little like cherry, a little like coffee, though the latter is much more prevalent. Palate cimes off a little thin, not a huge body here. Pours black with big head that dies down quick. On tap at volos blankboy (7833) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 13, 2005
Bottle. Pours black with an average size light brown frothy head. With a bit more head I would have given it a 5 for appearance. Aroma of chocolate, espresso, roasted malts and, of course, cherry. Smells delightful. Flavour is roasted coffee, chocolate, a touch of cherry and a nice amount of hops. Thankfully it’s all very well balanced and it’s not too sweet. This is a very good stout, kudos to Black Oak. Ughsmash (7510) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 4, 2007
Bottle, thanks to HogTownHarry! Poured black with a short-lived cap of tan head. The aroma picked up tart cherry skins on top of darker chocolates with some flaked oats.. nice blend of components. The flavor wasn’t as good.. tart, artificially-sweetened cherries hit the tip of the tongue.. dark chocolates, cocoa, and oats at the core, but seemed to lack substance.. sour cherry juice above all else, with some dry oxidized notes at the end. This just wasn’t so good.

2007 Version , fresh cask. Pours brown with good top.
Felt much richer than old 06 version . Plenty of chocolate, roasted malts less so cherry.
Old: Sweet brown malts dominate this scene, hint of euro continental hops behind.
Full , matured dark ale. Good , full bodied . For Starbucks lovers think of Raspberry Mocha but with cherry accents. Great improvement vs. batch one. Good brew.
Clean slightly vinous . Pleasant, neat woody bitter touches. Late fruit finish. Brewmasters excellence and detail oriented techniques are well shown. Almost perfect as dunkel goes just a bit boring / mainstream .
UPDATED: AUG 24, 2005 Bottle (341ml) I believe I am indebted to jerc for this one - thank you!. Pours motor-oil dark (good start!), thin, bubbly mocha head, some lacing. Aroma of espresso, burnt malt, dark chocolate, a little hop bitterness and light cherry hovering. Very full-bodied, creamy and oily in the mouth, a metallic tang on the taster, quite bitter, but still that 80% cocoa flavour, coffee, and a vague hint of cherry. Strong - alcohol grabs you on the linger. Apart from that metallic tang, a lovely stout and I’ll beg for more next time around. Wassail! blutt59 (6585) - Dallas, Texas, USA - OCT 26, 2011

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a deep black color stout with a nice foamy head with some average retention and no lacing. Aroma of deep cacao with some very subtle non-sweet cherries. Taste is dominated by deep chocolate notes with some very subtle cherries and some nice bitter roasted malt notes at the end. Body is a bit light for the style with some medium carbonation. Interesting but missing a bit of character to take this to the other level. Cletus (6368) - Connecticut, USA - APR 18, 2008
Bottle courtesy of hogtownharry. Pours muddy brown with a tan head. Smells of light cherries, some sweet malt. Tastes of artificial sweet cherries, some cocoa, some earthiness. T was hoping for some more intensity from the cherries, but this is nice. Some caramel on the finish.
