March 5, 2013 - at C’est What, on draught. Cloudy reddish-orange pour, smallish creamy/bubbly beige lasting head. Mild roast aroma, a hint of cocoa, mostly ehh. Taste is earthy and a little peppery, extremely bitter, some alcohol - surprising. Thiickish body, mild carbonation and astringency, a fairly long earthy almost gritty bitter finish - quite dry; actually a little too bitter, and I didn’t really get any salty character from it. Beer pours a translucent dark copper colour with a creamy whitish head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malt, spice, caramel and citrus. Mountfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour definitely has notes of pepper and caramel, with some dim roast flavours in the mix.
Draught at C’est What, March 5. Pours amber with an average size off-white head. Aroma is malt foremost followed by a hint of salt, spices and some yeast. Flavour is malty along with a bit of salt and a spicy bitter finish. Average bodied. Pretty good, I wouldn’t want a lot of it but it’s an interesting beverage.

2013-03-05. Dark red brown body, modest off white head. 3+ Interesting aroma, I swear I smell salt but I suspect that’s at least partly subliminal, but it shows up again the finish of the flavour as well. Lightly doughy yeasty touch to the aroma. Muted pepper notes. Flavour is interesting with a sweet core that finishes relatively bitter in the finish. Feels like the salt amplifies the bitterness somehow. 7+ Smooth average bodied palate is softly carbonated. Enjoyable but a bit odd. Glad I tried it. Deep amber pour with a thick white head. The aroma is fairly spicy with a little bit of earthy/spicy hoppiness. A touch of sticky crystal malt but it’s fairly restrained. Moderate bitterness. It reminds me of what used to be called an IPA in Ontario but mercifully is on its way out. Not really bad - just not all that interesting.
