In the creator role, and in the Ravens role as the totem and ancestor, the Raven is often addressed as Grandfather Raven. With this stately sense of pomp and tradition we bring you our Imperial Stout. This robust black ale is full with rich dark caramel, unsweetened chocolate, and hints of coffee aromas and flavors. Stately indeed, but at 9.5% ABV, perhaps it is just a vain attempt to encourage the trickster spirit to act respectably. Released annually in the winter.

In tap at brewery. Pours inky black with small beige head that disappears quick. Nose of big bourbon, licorice, molasses, chocolate.big in the mouth but enough carb to help overcome how cloying it is. Tate is sweet with same flavors as nose but throw in some dark fruits. Great beer for sure. I want more than one glass, which is the limit here

Near black pour with khaki head. Big chewy body, surprisingly so at less than 10%. Bitter chocolate, dark fruit, coffee and caramel on the nose. Caramel is more prominent in the flavor, more like a porter that way. Chocoalte, char, light licorice. Good.

Pours deep black with a fair bit of creamy brown foam. Nose is roasted dark malt, coffee, and a hint caramel. Taste is a lot of malt, some chocolate, and roasted coffee. Less caramel is the taste than in the nose. Somewhat bitter. Maybe some ash too. Full bodied, heavily carbonated. Fine but nothing special.

Dark beer with a foamy beige head. Big rich chocolaty nose. Lots of chocolate, burnt sugar, molasses, dark fruit, some sweetened coffee and a nice hop bitterness in the finish. Nice big impy stout.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with very good lacing. Aroma was a medium to heavy toasted dark chocolate malt. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex toasted sweet malt flavor and a Medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

22 oz bottle shared with Tmoney99. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, mild caramel, smooth, very dry, tasty, the bitterness is more of a dark chocolate bitterness, good body and mouthfeel.

Pours deep brown with a light tan head. Head fades to a lasting ring. Some caramel sweetness in the aroma and toasted malt notes. Flavor is burnt wood dipped in cocoa. Nice mild finish though.

Pours solid black with a tall dark head. Strong bitter coffee aroma, dry roasted malt, earthy, chocolate and molasses. Medium body. Flavor follows the aroma path with intensely bitter roasted malts, coffee, cocoa, some light burnt malt. Finish is dry as a bone and rather bitter. The booze is hidden well, just a slight warming in the finish. A nice Impy.

Bottle from Elizabeth Station, Bellingham, WA
Black color, with medium sized head. Strong character from the roasted malts, it also has some salt dark chocolate flavor; the sweetness is very light, and it has traces of coffee, and a hint of liquorice in the final.
Solid brew (I prefer sweeter and less roasty though).

Pour black with a mocha head. Aromas of chocolate, toffee, sweetness (lactose?), coffee, slight vanilla, and roasted malt. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee, toffee/caramel, char, high bitterness (verging on unpleasant the way it lingers). Full body, very smooth carb. Feels big and rich. Solid imp stout but a little too intense bitterness and not as complex as some of my favorites.
