COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Mort Rouge is born from a marriage between La Petite Mort, our dark Belgian style strong ale, and red wine barrels from our friends at Efeste winery in the Woodinville valley. In La Mort Rouge, we use multiple specialty malts to create a rich, complex beer and then balance that with red wine tannin from maturation in barrels.

On tap @ Black Raven. Pours deep inky brown with a thick creamy mocha head that fades quickly. Aroma is sweet candi sugar, toasted molasses, Belgian yeast, port barrels, light tobacco. Taste is similar - there is a rich vinous flavor though it really lends itself more towards port than wine, there is a strong boozy undercurrent here. Smooth and easy drinking with just a hint of heat, I wouldn’t guess this comes in over 10%. Really good.

12 oz bottle waxed cap. Vintage 2015. After aging the red wine barrel flavors really shine. All other flavor are a bit muted now. A little vinagar taste on the end.

Acidic belgian ale. Okay, pretty alcoholic, and not particularly well balanced. The wine barrel really comes through at the end. Tried with Winchell, Josh, and Al in Seattle in 2016.

Bottle (375ml $9): Dark red with little head. I thought I rated this before with a lower rating. Really enjoyed this as a before dinner and dinner beer. Light carbonation, some fruitiness, but not too sweet.

Draft pour at Special Brews. Listed as La Mort, but confirmed the brew. Pours a muddy brown color with a big bubble foam head. Rich malt aroma. Strong flavor. Tastes even heavier than it is. Sweet malt and a rye like finish. Dusty. Strange brew, but not bad.

Draft at sb. Thiz keg might have some years on it. Pours a murky dark burgundy with a dense and creamy pinkish tan head. Big vinous nose, lots of blackberries and plums and oak. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Interesting interplay between sweet malts and red wine at first, then gets ultra tannic and acetic and closed out. Hottish dry finish.
