On cask at the brewpub. Porter dry hopped with serabrianka, cinnamon, plum tea, allspice, true cinnamon, vanilla bean and French oak chips soaked on bourbon. Medium-murk maroon. Light shines through at the edges. Dense, creamy tan head is a finger thick. Can’t stop smelling -- smells like Christmas. Cocoa, toast, pine, cinnamon, caramel, allspice. A hint of licorice. Spicy and herbal flavor, like a black tea with honey. Cinnamon and roast noticeable in the front. Swallow brings cocoa that smoothes the rougher edges. Spices linger on the tongue between sips. Just a ton going on in there. The medium-light body could be a little thicker. Moderate prickly bitterness. Clean finish, with moderate bitterness on the sides of the tongue. Highly complex. Could be just a bit sweeter -- a little more malts to balance the bitter potpourri. But very good. BrewDad (5328) - Olympia, Washington, USA - APR 24, 2012
Dark brown in color, clear with a thin tan head. Nice cinnamon flavor and aroma. his was dark roast malt with thick chocolate, coffee and the added snicker doodle cookie flavors. This was a great gimmick brew and Black Raven did a terrific job.
