Bottle from BlackHearths&Sparrows. Great, very floral. Aromas of caramel, liquorice, anisette, with hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, with light sour notes, and long length. Palate is syrupy, and full bodied. Dark brown, with a frothy head.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2013 Cask on GBA @ Gallows Bird, 13/06/11. Pours black with a reddish tinge and an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, dark fruits, loads and loads of cherries, tones of roasted malts, coffee and liquorice. Taste is strongly cherries as well, some coffee, tones of roasted malts. Palate is fairly light. Really love the cherry flavor.

Cask at Arcadia, Leeds. Pours a blackish cola brown, finger of creamy head. Aroma is great - deep roasted malts, coffee and chocolate notes, a bit of dark fruit too. Taste is wonderfully rich right from the off, the same deep notes coming through, but even more so. Rich and delicious. Lovely long finish, full body. It’s amazing that Black Sheep consistently lay the liquid turd that is their flagship, when they can brew something as good as this.

(Cask, the first sample at Gallows Bird, Espoo, 20110610, and the second one at Angleterre, Helsinki, 20110613, both part of the Great Baltic Adventure) The beer poured almost black and its body was clear. The head was light brown. The first sample had unpleasantly sour aroma but the second was more like vineous. Other scents were roasted malts, apples, chocolate and cocoa. Palate was full bodied and warming. The first sample had sour and ashy flavours. The second one tastéd of wine, wood, vanilla, chocolate, cocoa, hint of hops and mildly bitterness. Aftertaste was vineous and bitter. A really good vineous imperial stout. Unfortunately it appears that two of the three casks that made to Finland were off so the quality varies too much. My score is based on the good sample.
