Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

I have been resistant to tying this due to the novelty factor… Pours an orange/copper color with a nice full and rocky head – good retention. Light co2 and some chill haze. Aroma is lightly metallic/acrid with some aroma hop. Palate is full and effervescent. Flavor has a quick but light hop bite, with a metallic finish– quite the residual twang of tartness. A decent flavor, but not necessarily representational of the style. What the hell do I know?

Bought from Morrisons. Pours to a golden colour. No head retention. Not a nasty pint! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From Mar 2006 Poured from bottle(room temp) a medium gold with a huge head of foam that dissipated slowly leaving s solid layer that lasted throughout the session. The smell is of sweet malt and some faint fruitness. The taste up front was a malt sweetness, almost honey like but shortly after, the bitterness from the hops come in and pretty much took over but that's temporary as well as the finish, imo, is a very nice balance between the 2 tastes . Yum...what a nice session brew! Bottom line: Here's another session English Ale that delivers nicely in the taste department. I'll certainly buy this again.

Bottle. Backlog rating from bottle collection and historic scoring. Source not recorded. No tasting notes kept, just rating. But not at all 'woody'.

Kita (2247) - Koper, SLOVENIA - SEP 10, 2017
Bottle, 0.50l. Pours cloudy amber color with large frothy off-white head and good lacing with average sparkling appearance. Aroma of berries, grass, cereals, yeast and toffee. Taste starts with mild sweet toffee, following is grassy and mild fruity, while finish is medium bitter. Light to medium body, thin texture and average carbonation in palate. No fun at all...

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 12A). Bottle 50 cl - Batch LB7086 (BBF 27.MAR.18). AROMA: medium-low to low hop aroma with an herbal character (starting to show oxidation), low diacetyl. very faint to none slightly sweet malt background. APPEARANCE: golden color and clear. medium-low ivory head with good retention. TASTE: medium-low hop flavor with a dry grass character (slight oxidation). almost neutral and slightly sweet malt background. medium to medium-high bitterness with a dry and bitter finish. slight diacetyl and cardboard. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a golden ale with too little malt character on the flavor and starting to show some oxidation.

bosta (300) - SLOVENIA - JUN 2, 2017
0,5l bottle. Pours orange with small white head. Malty and a bit mettalic aroma. A bitter taste.

dcmchew (104) - Bucharest, ROMANIA - MAY 30, 2017
Shiny, clear orange, poor bit of froth, leaves some minimal lacing. Earthy hops on the nose, some faint metal, cigar box, green tree bark, raw barley, crushed flower petals. The taste has some nice buttered bread crust, a lick of caramel, a lot of grain. Gets bitter and somewhat grassy towards the finish, with stronger hints of green tobacco, dried hay and some faint cardboard. Lingering bitterness in the aftertaste, developing some copper-like notes. Medium body, smooth carbonation, a bit creamy-thick. A decent enough English bitter, but ultimately quite forgettable and lacking finesse.
