Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python. It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

Bottled. Even as you know you want to try it for the name alone, something in the back of your mind says this could be another 3 Stooges Panther Pilsner. But no, instead a pretty nice bitter. Maybe a little carbonated to please American tastes, but that's the only consession it seems to make. Bitter is not a style I've had a lot of experience in, but I'll suspect this is somewhat middling against the well done ones. Good light brown color and maltiness, slight fruitiness. Just fun to bring out. And I found at the Whole Food Market in Chicago (so it may not have traveled as well as it might.

Shared bottle. Pours a hazy copper color with an off-white head. Aroma of mild malt, caramel, grains, hay. Taste follows nose. Not very good.

Aroma: malty and flat; Appearance: cloudy light amber with thin white head that disappears quickly; Taste: follows nose - both malty and flat; Palate: medium body with long, sweet finish; Overall: no need to try again.

Old rating. Bottle pour. Light copper with 2 fingers of foam that dissipates. Light bready malt aromas with some faint musty citrus. Light body and clean on the palate. Some cardboard and tired malt flavors. Light bitterness on the finish. Decent enough.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Pooler, GA. The appearance is a golden amber with a large white head. The aroma is big on citrus and light on hops. The taste is mild hops with no aftertaste. An average beer.

Bottle, 0.5l. Slightly cloudy copper pour with small and short lasting bubbly white head. Typical smell for the style, malts, grass, licorice. Medium body with watery texture, heavily carbonated. Moderately bitter taste with slightly fruity mouthfeel. Aroma of malts, caramel, grains, grass, hay, licorice, cardboard and alcohol. Slightly peppery on the tongue. Lasting finish, dry and moderately bitter. Overall, nothing exceptional but decent nonetheless.

50cl bottle. Clear golden with medium head. Medium intensive aromas of grains, toast, flowers and some little watered down honey. Medium carbonation and watery mouth feel. The beer is dry and malty with toast like overall flavor. A bit acidity and very delicate bitterness from roasted toast and some herbs. Nothing crazy about this beer.

From a bottle into a Rodenbach Grand Cru glass. Pours gold with small head. Aroma of light grains, amber malts, cereal, hay. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of light malts, powdered sugar, minerals, some bitter herb flavors. Overall a relatively simple malt bomb with modest complexity...it’s OK but I wouldn’t order a 2nd for awhile.

Oranssinruskea olut kohtalaisen runsaalla valkoisella vaahdolla, joka jättää kivasti pitsiä. Toffeemainen, makea tuoksu on varsin houkutteleva. Siihen nähden maku ei ihan yllä samalle tasolle. Maussa makeaa toffeisuutta, hedelmää ja humalaa. Suutuntuma kuitenkin turhan vetinen ja bittermäinen puraisu loistaa poissaolollaan. Hyvä maitokauppatuote, mutta samalla hinnalla (n.5€) saa jo paljon parempaakin.

500ml bottle from Morrisons. Clear copper colour, very fizzy head that disappeared instantly. Floral aroma, floral, slightly spicy taste. Ok beer, nothing special, but the packaging was excellent

A very pretty pour to a full head, snappy carbonation and a caramel color to go with a caramel aroma and a bit of green grapes in the aroma. Taste and finish are both mildly bitter. Nicely done bottle label graphics to go with a solid ale.
