"Strong Yorkshire Ale"
Riggwelter is now our second best-selling bottled beer and has national listings in many of the major supermarkets.
Roasted malt, hops and banana-fruit.
This strong, velvety ruby brown beer really is a wolf in sheeps clothing. It is deceptively clean drinking, with a wonderfully complex palate of coffee, bananas and liquorice which rewards you with a long, dry Goldings hop finish.
We use a base of Maris Otter malted barley, but add plenty of Pale Chocolate malt to give Riggwelter its rich dark colour, espresso nose and roasted malt flavours. We use a touch of wheat which helps deliver the lovely creamy head and lacing down the glass - just what you would expect from a proper Yorkshire beer!
All our bottled ales are suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.
Whats in a name?
Riggwelter Ale takes its name from a local Yorkshire Dales farming term which has Old Norse roots; rygg meaning back, and velte meaning to overturn. A sheep is said to be rigged or rigwelted, when it has rolled onto its back and is unable to get back up without assistance. It seemed the perfect name for a strong beer from the Black Sheep Brewery in Yorkshire.

Tasted from 1pt .9oz brown bottle into a tall tulip glass. It poured a clear but dark reddish-brown color with lasting beige foam and lace. Beautiful appearance. Aromas of sweet malt, citrusy hops, caramelized brown sugar, very strong fruity ale yeast esters, chocolate. Great malt complexity, bittersweet hops balance, flavors of raisins, wild cherries, black plums. Likely a long-boil, definitely tastes of kettle caramelization. Drier and less bready than I expected, tart almost to the point of sour, hint of lacto acid, well-rounded mouthfeel nonetheless with strong carbonation to splash it all around, persistent fruity aftertaste. Well-crafted, no flaws, a near-perfect "Big Brown Ale." Exactly my kind of beer.

Rich Amber brown coloured body, good compact off white head. I get the banana on the nose as described in the commercial description. Nice balanced bittersweet flavours. The bitterness lingers after swallowing for some time. Decent drink

Super dobre i tresciwe angielskie Ale. Super Ale

50cl bottle. Brown with small head with good lacing. The beer has deep aromas of chocolate, toffee, toasted bread and some little flower honey. Creamy with delicate carbonation mouth feel. The beer is easy to drink with medium sweet, also auite dry notes of chocolate and toast. Finish is roasted toast. Medium intensive. The beer is quite a nice thirst quencher with malty profile. Not bad.

Pour a clear, dark chestnut brown, topped with a medium small beige head.Mild malty aroma, very unpronounced, some chocolate and biscuits, tad roasty. Taste is malty sweet, chalky with some woody feel to it. A bit of bitterness. Medium full body. Nothing special actually.

Clear dark amber with minimal head that dissipates. Not much aroma -- maybe a hint of the barley -- so the complex flavor is a surprise, with nuts and coffee and an underlying sweetness. Warm palatte with a bit of a burn on the end. Surprisingly pleasant!

Transparren Ruby brown colour. Medium white head. Hints of caramel, toffee and some coffee in the aroma. Malty, caramelly first taste. Hints of honey. Sweet in the middle. Slight sourness in the end. Hints of bread. Pretty well balanced, medium carbonated, well drinkable beer.
