COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Farmhouse Ale fermented with brettanomyces and aged in red wine barrels for 18 months.

Editor’s Note: unlike the regular 2017 Brett Saison, this is 100% aged beer instead of a blend of fresh and aged, and 18 months instead of 12.

2017 Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear golden color with a small quickly dissipating eggshell colored head. Creamy, oaky nose. Faint muscat, and Tannic red wine aromas. Low carbonation, creamy yogurt character. Lemon curd, berry, honey and oak. Very nice, the barrel notes work well with the unblended saison. Just enough carbonation to keep it interesting.

Not quite the heady rush of funked-up oak and vinous notes I expected, instead a somewhat restrained wild farmhouse ale that only amps up its leathery goodness late into the finish. Granny smith apples with hints of vanilla and wheat slowly grow wine-tinged and woody, with a back end that eases into its brett and cab leanings. Undercarbonated texture is a disappointment; slack feel leaves the fade overly boozy and dull. Pours a hazed gold with a slight pinkish hue, and the nose is a tempting mix of leather and apple slices. Not bad, but I wanted something a little more...vibrant, I guess.

Smells quite funky - barnyard horse blanket. Some fruity ness, blue cheese, some funk. Smooth fouthfeel low carbonation. No head to speak of.

Sampled at the 2017 Beer Fest. It poured a hazy golden color with a white head. The aroma was of citrus, melons and some spice. The taste was similar to the aroma with more citrus, melons, spices and medium carbonation with a sweet aftertaste. Decent.
