Orange gold pour with a huge white head that settles nicely. Mostly caramel aroma with a bit of citrus. Taste of similar, there was nice caramel and a little tropical fruit, but the fruit and bitterness was pretty subdued. Decent enough but a bit underwhelming ALLOVATE (3015) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 5, 2017
Was excited as this is my first from this brewer, so into a tulip it goes at just on chilled. Quite lively, it took a good few minutes to settle before emptying the can. Cloudy ’New England’ style haze makes it near impenetrable for the eyes to view the hand on the other side. Mid amber to dull gold in body. Head is a mess of sloppy off-white suds failing against some oily legs. Balanced juicy meets tickling nose of caramel, toasted malts, pronounced resinous pine and hints of lemon grass and soft grapefruit. On the palate it is rather dry, piney and resinous with a clappy touch of vine clippings on the swallow. Mildly astringent and phenolic like chewing on a matchstick whilst downing tart grapes. Cascade and Citra haven’t been kind to this. Don’t really come through as fresh, dry hopped. Mildly soapy in feel as it lathers the tongue late into drinking. Moderate bitterness breaks it up. My tongue is working overtime wondering where the fresh element is. Left quite parched. Malt is dusty, powdery and doesn’t help my tongue recover. Really wanted to like this, but this canned sample just called for a sweet bock to follow. That combo has never happened after an APA tasting! Bottled served in various locations around kinsale. Havent seen elsewhere despite looking. Pours quite light golden with a moderate head. Slight bitterness which doesnt linger, lovely hoppy citrus flavour. A very drinkable american pale ale not hindered by bitterness unlike many. thejackpacker (446) - East Sussex, ENGLAND - FEB 9, 2017
