Sample at Dilly during Cincinnati Beer Week. Murky dark brown color with a medium thin beige head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt and peppers. Light-bodied with flavors of roast malt, smokey peppers and a bit of earthy hops. The finish is malty up front with a slow mild chili pepper burn that lingers. Pretty good all around. alexsdad06 (10640) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - OCT 25, 2014
Draft at Listermann Oktoberfest. Pours a hazy amber brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have a nice smokiness, mild to moderate sweetness from the hickory syrup, the pepper character starts slowly, but grows and adds a nice warming heat, still drinkable, interesting brew. robbienate (113) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 13, 2014
Nose sweet malt, light chili, not much else. Taste light sweet malt with smokiness then green pepper shows up. The green chili transition to heat mid palate and continues through the finish. phaleslu (10547) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 13, 2014
Cask pour at Listermann Oktoberfest. Pours a hazy amber with a small off-white head that laces the glass. Nice pepper character in this - not overwhelming - with a balance of smoke and caramel and toasted malts, and some backing earth and leathery notes. The caramel sweetness must be the hickory syrup, which is really mellow and subtle. Light-medium bodied, with a spicy, smoky mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Really cool beer. drsordr (2798) - Loveland, Ohio, USA - OCT 11, 2014
Draft sample at Listermann pour cloudy brown. Nose sweet malt, light chili, not much else. Taste light sweet malt with smokiness then green pepper shows up. The green chili transition to heat mid palate and continues through the finish. Taste better than it smells. Wish there was some more background flavors for the chili hear to play against.

Draft sample. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average creamy off-white head that was mostly lasting and produced excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted smoked malt and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium toasted smoked sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Sold drinkable brew.

Snifter on tap at Hopnosis 2012. Kind of a clear dark red / brown color. Good thin off-white head. Decent lace. Really nice chile in the nose. Light chocolate, some smoke, with a good spicy kick in the finish, that lasts long into the aftertaste. Wow! It’s strong enough to savor, but not so much as to be uncomfortable, in my opinion. Good creamy medium body, light carbonation. Nice, smooth and tasty. Nice chocolate. I really enjoyed this one, probably my favorite Blank Slate beer so far
