Ale brewed with fig juice. A traditional style named for John Darby, preacher of temperance whose parishioners were oddly moved by a "soft drink" they insisted was just fig juice...

Pours light copper with a huge head that wants to jump straight out of the glass. Aroma is restrained funk, sourness and dust with not so much fruits and spices. Taste is not puckering, really just a soft sour and quite dry. Carbonation level is medium-high enhancing the drinkability of this beer IMO. Not so much fig in the flavor but there is a strange woody (I’d describe it as woody) that takes a while to get used to. Would I drink this again? Yes. Would I go out of my way for it? No.

Not sure how much fig juice or flavors I’m getting with this but otherwise it’s nice.

0.75 l bottle from ’Rudat’, best before December 2018. Clear, amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish-sourish, moderately fruity, slightly grassy-spicy, a bit funky-dusty aroma of lemon peel, hay and dark fruits (figs). A bit sour, quite fruity, moderately grassy-spicy and a little funky taste of lemon, gooseberry, figs, oak and hints of white grapes, followed by a medium long, moderately tart, slightly grassy-spicy and very dry finish. Thin to medium body, moderately astringent and quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very interesting, really refreshing, I like it!

Bottle in the Salt Horse, Edinburgh shared with Pix. Golden with a foamy off white head. Funky aroma with Belgian yeast notes. The taste has mildly sour light cider notes along with grain. Refreshing and pleasant.

Bouteille.

750ml bottle (Pothouse, Tallinn)
Opens with a big pop, but all under control, thank you. Bright orange, brief head. First sniff was alas a bit of tinned tomato, but that’s replaced by something more recogniseable fruit juiciness. Some almost lambicky sourness too, a saisony funk. Palate way too fizzy. Taste is sweet, some rice pudding, fruit juice. Gets heavier in the rice pudding aspect as it continues, even coconut milk slickness. Finish dry and bitter. Bit of a dull brew.

750ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Cloudy dark amber color. Small size, yellowish-beige head, stays. Apples, fruity, yeasty, CO2, metallic and yeasty in aroma. Sweetish, honey, apples, earthy and fizzy in taste. Apples, yeasty and some jammy notes in aftertaste. Fizzy carbonation. Feels dirty and messy. And fizzy. And farmhousey. Weird brew.

Large offwhite creamy head. Good lacing. Mostly diminishing. Dark amber average-density clear body. Aroma: metal, fig, moderate malt, citrus lemon. Initial flavor: moderate sweet. Final flavor: light acidic moderate sweet; long duration. Palate: light medium body, dry texture, lively carbonation, moderate astringent finish. Delicioso balanço entre dulçor frutado e acidez lembrando ameixa fresca. Leve presença de malte no fundo. 80s
