Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

750ml bottle dated 2005. Pours a translucent gold with a very thick and creamy off white head. Lots of bubble and a few floaties swimming around too. Fizzy and tart on the palate. Taste is very crisp and refreshing with a distinct lemon and hops aftertaste. A very good Saison. The more I drink Saisons, the more I like them. Top notch brew here.

Dark golden, slightly hazy. Big white creamy head, good retention and quite a lot of lacing. Aroma is quite lively. Mainly fruity (fleshy i would say) with orange and peach most noticeable. Also has herbal/grassy notes, chamomille hints and a white bread/crackery base. Taste has a white bread base, slight honey, strong fruity notes (again orange and peach), something reminding of wildflowers and slight grassy notes. Overall this is quite sweet in both taste and aftertaste, much more than usual per style. Most notably, it lacks that dry bitter finish that many saisons have. Light to medium bodied with high carbonation, typical per style but maybe a bit too thin of a body for such high carbonation. Overall this is an enjoyable, quite intense and very fruity saison, but i can't help thinking this is a bit too sweet and thin bodied for both style and my liking.

750ml bottle from de Bierkoning. Big pop upon opening. Big white head which fades instantly to no head at all. Hazy yellow colour. Smells nice like a saison, with the yeast and hops to the fore. Tastes really lovely, very summery, with a nice hop bite and some spice. The only detractor here is the texture - its just so fizzy and the body is quite thin which combines to give the feeling of drinking a soft drink. Still a nice beer, heads and shoulders above most wannabe saisons, but quite not on the level of Fantome or even Dupont.

Clear golden pour, huge, foamy, white head. Tart, grassy wheat, light spice, some light basil, hints of cereal, and citrus. Crisp, clean mouth feel, very active carb. Lightly spicy finish, low to medium bitterness, very crisp, and very refreshing. Really nice example of an old school Belgian saison.

Bouteille à consommer de préférence avant fin 2018. Robe jaunâtre trouble avec une tonne de particules en suspension et surmontée d'un gigantesque col de mousse blanc et rocailleux qui ne cesse de croître. Arômes de céréales âcres et craquantes, zeste de citron, levures belges à tendance poivrées, léger sucre résiduel. En bouche, citron frais, levures qui sont ici plus sucrées, un peu d'orange/coriandre, finale axée sur le grain. Texture légère, carbonatation élevée, corps mince à moyen.

75cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of a typical Belgian Blond ale, light fruity, banana, esters, light spicy yeast, light malty. Flavour is light to medium sweet, light malty, fruity esters, light spicy, light floral, hint of lemon, firm underlying bitterness. Relatively dry, light bodied, way over-carbonated. Disappointing.

Yella wild living carbonation and vigorous head. Lovely yeast aroma of fresh bread, lemon cream, black pepper, floral hops and dank stickyicky. High co2, tastes like the aroma, medium dryness, very refreshing, quite straight forward. Dry mildly bitter finish. No need for bullshit modern dumbass kids ruining a good thing, this is what a saison tastes like. Perfect saison.

Złoty zakurzony, zamglony. Piana sztywna, wysoka, średniej struktury, dobrze się utrzymuje. Aromat wyraźny ale delikatny, słód, pszenica, owoce, lekka cytrusowość, delikatne fenole drożdży, przyprawy w tle, głównie pieprzowe, wuczuwalne ciasto drożdżowe. W smaku słód, pszenica, chleb, przyprawy, subtelny kwas, ale w odczuciu półpełne, dopiero na finiszu taka półwytrawność. Delikatne przyprawy nie psują fajnego balansu ze słodem. Porządna lekka kontrukcja przez co bardzo pijalne.Polecam
