COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the Belgian Golden Strong Ale, but with a varied malt bill from the usual Pilsner malt. The style is traditionally named after the Devil or variations thereof. Hell Gate Belgian-Inspired Golden Ale follows that tradition, and is also named for the bridge that spans the infamous Hell Gate portion of the East River that separates Long Island from Manhattan.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a semi-burnt golden orange color with a finger and a half of foamy white head that fell off ever so slowly. Light stringy lace. The aroma had some red delicious apples, some bubblegum, light banana, light woodiness and then some grassy and citrusy hops. Light resin and floral qualities slide in underneath. Light Belgian spices. The flavor blends all of the previously mentioned aromas together in a semi-sweet manner and lightly spiced with some Belgian notes. All of this comes together somewhat in the aftertaste and slides into the finish fairly nice and sweet. On the palate, this one sat almost medium bodied but just a tad under. Somewhat of a decent sessionability about it. Good carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good as well. Overall, nicely done Belgian Strong ale well worthy of having again.

On draught at the 2011 North Fork Beer and Wine Festival. ours a cloudy gold with a large white head. This was a freshly tapped keg for the festival and one of the first pours. Very mild aroma of malt and not much else in the nose. The flavor is mild malt along with some very grassy hops. Smooth mouthfeel, again very grassy. Alcohol is very well hidden.
