Dark opaque brown color, small brown head. Smokey, ryeish aroma. Light to medium bodied. Milky lactose, rye, smokey, toasted malts. Smokey milk stout ...
Bottle thanks to NYbeer. Pours very dark brown with medium tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, smoke, and wood. Flavors of roasted malts, perfect amount of smoke, ash, chocolate, and a little coffee, but that could just be the smokyness confusing my palate. I can appreciate a nice smoked beer and this is one of them. Smoke adds nice complexity and is not overbearing at all. Pretty solid. murphym45 (769) - New York, New York, USA - MAR 16, 2011
The beer pours very dark brown with a thin tan head. The aroma is woody and is heavy on roasted malt along with notes of smoke and chocolate. There is also a very subtle meaty aroma. It is dry and lightly astringent, and not nearly as heavy bodied as I expected given the color and aroma, a little bit thin. The smoke comes out a bit more on the palate, along with some bitter chocolate. Finishes woody with a bit more smoke and meat. While I’ve heard of at least one other bottle from this batch that was flat, this one is carbonated fairly well, although on the lighter side. ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 16, 2011
A - Pours a dark black color with a nice finger of off-white head. There was good retention with the head and some very nice lacing left behind.
S - Aroma has some very nice elements of smokiness, some sweet chocolate malts, and some bitter coffee aroma. Very nice and well balanced.
T - Starts off with the roasted chocolate malt flavor building with a hint of smokiness in the background. Through the middle, the roasted flavors and the smokey flavors explode a bit with some coffee flavor also mixing in. The finish has some nice smokey flavor that lingers with some bittersweet flavor from the chocolate. Very nice balance of flavors here.
M - Medium bodied with medium to medium-low carbonation. A bit dry overall, which makes it a really crisp beer. The smokiness really fills the mouth at points and gives the beer a full taste.
D - Very drinkable. The flavors here are excellently balanced and make for a very good beer. The smoky flavor really works well mixed with the porter and gives the beer a really nice kick, even with the relatively moderate abv (5.7%). JK (6240) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - MAR 12, 2011
Another treat from Skyview, thanks Bob. Light smoke in the aroma. Thick palate with flavor on the dry side. more smoke in the flavor, but it is light. I light my smoked beers with more smoke.

Bottle. Black with tan head. Nose of smoked chocolate malt and barley. Taste of wood, smoked chocolate malt and charcoal ash. deyholla (11900) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 26, 2011
Bottle shared by someone at Paul and Ryan’s 5000 celebration. Poured near black with a brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was full of smokey notes that gave a bit of a leather and ham note. There was also a strong note of roasted malt. Flavor started smokey and roasty, but the smoke grew with a bit of a salty smoked meat finish. BrewBoxer (2653) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 3, 2011

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 29, 2011. Courtesy of Skyview. Dark brown color with a small head. Light smoke aroma. Bone dry. Light bitterness. Moderate smokiness, along the lines of bonfire smoke. Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - JAN 30, 2011
Thanks for sharing Bob.
Pour was brown with a lingering head.
Pleasant smokey chocolate aroma.
Flavour was solid smoked malt, nice chocolate and coffee tones. Finish was a little light.
Nice beer overall.
