hopsbreath (24) - St Helens, Oregon, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Very dark brown in the glass with translucent edges. A near complete cappuccino cap slowly recedes to a glass ring. Moderate legs with surprising lacing makes this appear to be a winner. What a nose. Im not just using flowery language, but authentic bitter cocoa infused baked goods are detectable. Beautiful barrel notes full of vanilla and oak lend a compliment to the sweet caramel alcohol. Huge and unabashed on the booze. One of the richest stouts Ive ever smelled. Big peppery dark fruits and raisins by the truck load. Chocolate, vanilla, toffee, obvious bourbon... A decadent dessert in a glass to be sure. No coffee in this guy, but thats not really his bag. Deep and lush, fairly light in body with soft carbonation, and an only slightly sticky finish. The high ABV would suggest it should be heavier than this. Very smooth on the palate with honest tongue numbing qualities.

Benzai (14682) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JUL 25, 2016
Bottle [from trade with Ardyexfor] @ home. Opaque pitch black color with a full sized very dark brown head that lasts for a short while. Aroma is malts, lots of chocolate, mocha, firm bourbon and some alcohol. The flavor has it too: malts, dark malts with soft roast, firm to heavy bourbon, chocolate, mocha, some alcohol. Dominating the aroma and dominating the flavor is bourbon, chocolate, mocha. Alcohol is present but its not your typical 15% ABV beer, its noticeable but never annoying, never too much. Soft mouthfeel, oily texture, soft carbonation. Awesome beer. Thanks Andy!

Nose is tangy dark fruits, spice, chocolate, earthy, chocolate balsam notes. Taste comprises bitter dark fruit, liqourice, spice, tagny dark fruit, chocolate, charr, aniseed.
