mcberko (17809) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 15, 2012
On tap at Beer Mongers, pours a near-black with an amber tinge and a small tan head. Aroma of light licorice, rye, Belgian candied sugar and various spices – not too much of the barrels, least of which the bourbon. Flavour of light tart berries, dark rye, red wine barrels, and Belgian yeast. Nice subtle tartness and very drinkable, despite the high ABV and barrel aging – though I don’t get any of the bourbon barrels. Solid stuff.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Nose/taste of vinous notes, oak, old wood, tart cherry, wild yeast, roasted black malt, cocoa, vanilla and some boot leather in the nose. Wonderfully complex and smooth. Medium body.

brokensail (16444) - Dublin, California, USA - DEC 3, 2012
Very dark brown pour with an off-white head. Not as bold an aroma as I had hoped. Some roast, a bit of oak, cherry, and mild spirit. Not too much of the wine. Some light funk, earth, and tartness. A bit of malt sweetness to the flavor, some chocolate, roast, and vanilla. Quite a bit of oak, some mild wine, fruit, cherry, and a bit of tartness. A bit of earthy funk, some chalk, and must.

hopdog (12510) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 23, 2013
750ml bottle. Poured a dark brown color with an off white head. Earthy, wood, vanilla, vinous, some bourbon, and some dark fruits.

deyholla (11597) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 5, 2013
Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of sour fruit with some backing barnyard and light dark grains. Flavor has notes of dark grains and mushroom throughout with a light tartness and funk.

hopscotch (11078) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 29, 2013
Bottle... Hazy nearly-black ale with ruby highlights and a small, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is chocolaty and lightly herbal - sassafras - with a rumor of funk. Full-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor pretty much mirrors the nose – sweet and chocolaty with a suggestion of sassafras and a whisper of acidic funk. Sweet, chocolaty finish. About as interesting as they come. Pulls up just shy of being world class. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!

daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 4, 2013
Very dark brown pour, tan head. Cool beer. Tart flavors, earthy tones, vanilla, bourbon, red wine, toothpick, raisins. Nest beer!

GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 4, 2013
750mL thanks to brainlair and ryan. Dark porter color, coffee foam. Dwindling quickly. Acid cut. Nose has dark red wine, blackberry, small seasoned tomato from the bourbon, cracked black pepper. Taste is tangy, woody, dusty, light black cherry, excellent lime juice acidity. Clean, nice cocoa addition. Essentially a dark sour. Has some Fantome Noel like mild acidity combined with a bizarre but loveable concoction of flavors. Loving the palate. Acidic, tangy, berry heavy, raspberry chocolate.

douglas88 (9174) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 2, 2013
750 ml bottle. Pours a almost jet black color with a large beige head. A sour malty nose, vinous and oak. The flavor is interesting and easygoing: cherries, tartness, wine, dry white wine mostly, berries, the base saison comes in with almost funky dryness. I think this works well. The light roasted flavors are nice as well. Great brew.
