Bottle (750 ml) shared at tasting. Black with a small to medium beige head, decent retention, leaving little lacing. Flavors of cocoa, bourbon, vanilla, cherries, roasted malt, ashes, burnt caramel and oak. Taste is moderately sweet with a bit of alcohol heat and mild chocolate bitterness. Full body. Medium carbonation. Roasty and chocolate finish with a bit of alcohol warming in the finish. A very good bourbon BA RIS similar to tons of others but still flavorful and well executed. pours unclear very dark brown with a small light beige cap, minimal retention. lots of bourbon, milk chocolate, almost powdery; sweet toasted coconut, raisins, alcohol, salt. low carbonation, full body; sweet woody finish. very nice BA bourbon stout.

Bottle from the recent release. I started with a shitty infected coffee imperial stout that I had to dump, but I’m only 5 minutes into the start of Better Call Saul, so I figured I’d open up one of these. Surprised I’ve never rated it, but maybe I shouldn’t be -- I’m getting worse (or better?) at not rating everything I drink. Anyway, pours very dark with creamy thick khaki head that lasts and lasts and lasts. Good lacing. Looks damned nice. Aroma is basically chocolate chip cookie dough -- bourbon, vanilla, lots of chocolate, nice and doughy. Taste is on the sweet side, but with nice roast bitterness. Doesn’t finish sweet, but definitely still finishes chocolaty. Creamy texture, full body which feels a little thin compared to what I’d hope. Overall: a solid, better than average barrel-aged imperial stout. The cocoa feels legit / complete (not hershey’s syrup here, but cacao nibs with both the underlying sweetness and the bitter fruity nuttiness). thirdeye11 (6160) - Dallas, Texas, USA - FEB 6, 2016
