2014. Still inky black pour with a thin dark tan head. Nose shows wood, chocolate, some alcohol, coffee, and dark fruit. Still in the mouth with a warming finish. Bourbon and oak with dark chocolate and some heat.

Bottle thanks to p1meatloaf! Pours inky, glass coatingly black, minimal head or lacing. Aroma is sweet chocolate bourbon truffles, vanilla and a bit of toffee. Flavor is medium plus sweet, light plus bitter, super rich chocolate bourbon truffles again. Full creamy body, minimal carbonation. This is not as sweet as some, but it is still a desert sipper, and a good one at that.

(Episode IV - 2012) pours a dark reddish brown. No head. Some lacing. The nose is dusty roasted malt, oak, spice and vanilla. The taste is somewhat sweet and slightly boozy. Some sour notes as well which doesn’t contribute positively. Very earthy and cellared flavors. This would have been much nicer fresh I’m sure. Texture is light and oily with a low carb. Aftertaste is dry licorice and dark chocolate. Some oak, some vanilla. Sadly this bottle was too old in my oppinion. Will try to rerate if possible.

This one has everything right, BUT the flavor. 11% alcohol helps earn some bonus points (+)!

Draft at Chuck’s CD. Still black-brown, poured with no head. Licorice-molasses aroma. Smooth sip blossoms with great cigar tobacco and fresh carbonation. A little vanilla-bourbon in background. Cool and smooth. Leather and booze. Some cold smoke and cold brew coffee. Lovely beer.

ACHops (1584) - Seattle, Washington, USA - FEB 11, 2015
On tap @ Chuck’s CD. Pours thick inky brownish black with very thin mocha head. Aroma is dark chocolate, espresso, soy sauce, oak, and bourbon. Taste is rich dark roasty malt, dark chocolate, plums, cocoa, dry aged oak, port, and lightly boozy bourbon that follows through the finish. Impressively full and rich mouthfeel, very smooth on the finish. Tons of flavor but almost no heat from the sizable 11% abv. Light on the bourbon and barrel flavors vs. most beers that would be considered competitors, although the formula clearly works here.
