22 ounce bottle from Wine & Beer Westpark in Richmond, VA. Opened 3/21/11. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of mildly tart cranberries, apples and butter. The taste is cranberries, grainy notes, mild buttery notes and some earthy notes. Medium bodied. A bit off and otherwise a mediocre beer. Wife picked a growler of this from the brewery, so big thanks to Amyliz4! Reviewed from notes. strap (977) - Sindelfingen, GERMANY - FEB 17, 2010
Pours a reddish amber out of the growler into a tulip. Nose brigs a slight tartness and some fresh cranberries. Taste is smilar with a bit of added sweetnessm. Medium body and good carbonation. Somewhat unique and not half bad.
Serving type: growler

poured a flat maroonish color, thick as paint. did not resemble beer. cranberry taste was overpowering, as if i was drinking a cranberry puree soaked in beer. this must’ve been an anomaly from the bottling and not as the brewer intended. lamas (1657) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 20, 2009
downright awful taste, but good aroma...smelled just like cranberries.
22 oz. bottle from 2009. A murky ruby red pour with a thin khaki head. A subtle aroma of tart cranberries with some caramel and citrus in the background. Crisp and thin to medium-bodied. The flavor starts with some sweet graininess and quickly transitions to some tart cranberries, candied sugar, and yeastiness. Mild citrusy qualities at the end. A bitter, somewhat drying finish. Some alcohol is noticeable. Kinz (3786) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - SEP 7, 2008
I had put this off for awhile, afraid based on some other experiences I had endured from this brewer. But, I had kept it refrigerated from the moment of purchase, definitely well under a year old, what could go wrong? I opened it, and was greeted by a geyser of foam. Half of the 22 oz. bottle ended up on the counter, floor, and sink before the gushing slowed. A sour aroma slowly filled the air. Uh-oh. Trying to give the benefit of the doubt, I figured that there was at least a chance that the sour note was a result of the use of cranberry. There were some brownish looking chunks at the bottom of the glass - cranberry seeds?? Hazy amber, massive, loosely formed head. Aroma sour and off, definitely not a good sour note. One mouthful. Thin malts that had clearly been chewed over by something that shouldn’t have been there, and a winey, vinegary sourness. Something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. What hadn’t released itself all over my kitchen went down the sink. I have heard that this brewery recently hired a new head brewer, one that people I know respect. I will go back and revisit Blue & Gray in the future, but this last beer might have put me over the edge for a while.

Thanks to oelergud for the trade... hopdog (13102) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 5, 2007
Appears a dense, dark brown with an auburn hue and a small white cap. Spotty lacing is left all around the glass.
Smell is of honey, mild cranberries, fuity sponge cake, and some caramel.
Taste is of light cranberry tartness with a mild fruit and cakey yeast, along with mild flavors of caramel and cocoa running along the palate.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, sticky, and dry with sweetness up front and a combo of sweet fruit and bitterness for a moderately dry finish.
750ml bottle shared courtesy of weeare138. Poured a deeper reddish brown color with a smaller sized head. Aromas of mainly tart cranberries with some caramel and citrus in the background. Tastes of tart cranberries and caramel. The cranberries was stronger in the aromas than the tastes. Thinner body. TomDecapolis (4636) - Milton, Delaware, USA - JAN 4, 2007
Thanks to weeare138 for sharing this bottle. Pours a hazy, darker ruby red with a smaller off white creamy/bubbly head. Aroma of cranberry, sweet malts, some yeast and fruity. Flavors of the same some light bitterness and a little bit of doughy/bready malts. joeygjr (8) - Virginia, USA - JAN 29, 2006 does not count
Mild cranberry aroma. Strong roast aromas and falvor. Slight cranberry sharpness provides a good offset to the almost bland roast malt flavor. The appearance is rather muddy and opaque. Medium bodied. Emminnently drinkable. I would have liked a hair more cranberry flavor and a little sweetness to balance it, but the roast is another direction that comes off well.
