3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 20, 2008 This is a oak bourbon barrle aged version of Temporary Insanity Imperial Stout with a distinctive flavor from the original. The beer pours a dark cola-brown with a light beige head which persists as a thin ring. The aroma is noticeably that of sweet bourbon. There’s a hint of chocolate malt as well. The aging has smoothed out the flavor and there is little of the hop bitterness of the original. The flavor of the whiskey is prominent. Roasted malt and dark chocolate notes are detected. There’s a warming alcohol presence as well. I don’t know the actual ABV, but my estimate it’s on the higher side, maybe close to 10-12%. The aftertaste adds a slight hop bitterness.
A really nice imperial stout. Lots of thick chocolate and coffee character and a potent vanilla and wood aroma. Picked up a bottle for free from the brewer in Frederickburg for doing a little manual labor in 2015. harrymel (1551) - Spokane, Washington, USA - NOV 17, 2013
Pours a dark brown with a solid tan cream head. Smells of sour grapes, vines and some ink. A little alcohol, some dry toasted malts. Flavor is bitter, some leather, more bitterness, reminds me of an infected bottle of Maduro Oatmeal Brown from CCB I had. This is kinda fucked in my opinion. Some bits of soil, but mostly burnt, bitter char character. Medium on full bodied with creamy carb and a dry finish. Can’t say I enjoyed this. From a 22 oz bottle at home. Pours black with a thin tan head. Pina colada in the nose. Flavors of coconut, roasted malts, and chocolate. Bitter finish. A decent imperial stout. madmitch76 (25009) - , Essex, ENGLAND - NOV 24, 2012

Opaque dark brown beer. Not much of a head. Silky palate, quite light for it’s abv. Mild carbonation. Smooth dark malt. Big splash of bourbon. Whisper of vanilla. Mild minerals. Very mild chocolate and bitter coffee. Some lactose sweetness. Overall a pretty smooth RIS beast.
This is a bad imperial stout, but I kind of think the same thing about imperial stouts that I think about pizza. A bad pizza is still better than no pizza and a bad imperial stout is still an imperial stout. The only thing that can make them unpleasant is a severe flaw (rancidness for example) and there are no severe flaws. This is just an undewhelming base beer with a bit of bourbon aging. Actually, the fact that the barrel aging isn’t overwhelming in such a nondescript beer is almost impressive.

Bomber from Kinz. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and some roast. Flavors of bourbon, roasted malts, chocolate, and some sweetness. Body is a little thin but this is pretty balanced. No OMG moments, but no WTF moments either. DiarmaidBHK (5113) - Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2012
Draft at brewpub. Pours black with almost no head. Very lightly carbonated. Slight hint of pine sol on the nose. A nice amount of molasses and maltiness on the tongue. Maybe a bit of the wood as well. Finishes a bit watery. Definitely doesn’t feel like a 13% but isn’t that awesome compared to others in the style. magsinva (1326) - Virginia, USA - JUN 16, 2012
Tap @ brewery - pours a dark brown with no head. Aroma is like milky pine needles with some smokey notes. Taste is sweet and it finishes bitter dry. The alcohol is present, but not prominant. I like it better than their stonewall stout. Overall, a solid mid-table effort. jeff789 (1408) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 30, 2012
Big thick black body with a small tannish head that leaves limited retention and no lacing... Aroma is of roast and bourbon with a notable coconut... Flavor profile follows suit... Relatively uncarbonated, nice beer... reggiedunlop (3725) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 28, 2012
Pours deep brown/black with a very thin and wispy mocha head. Aroma is loaded with bourbon but not boozy...some toasted coconut and caramel...vanilla. flavor is roasted with some charred woodiness and good bourbon...mild dark chocolate and vanilla. Mouthfeel is full but very low in carbonation...finish is roasty, dry, and warming.
