Handpull cask from the Geldart, Cambridge. Dark gold and very clear. Spotty white head. Soft papaya and vegetal notes, not what one might expect from this sort of beer but its nice enough. Sweet tropical fruit taste with a palpable savouriness. Short finish. Medium body, carbonation is very soft. A beer that grows on me over the course of a pint is always a good thing.

Cask at Red Squirrel, High Wycombe. Crystal-clear gold with a thick white head. Floral, some lemon, a little caramel and white pepper. Very dry, slightly chalky. Grew watery and bland. Didnt do it for me, although I seem to be in the minority here.

Bottle from Glen Park Hotel, Ayr. Appearance - golden with a decent head. Nose - lemon and flowers. Hay. Taste - loads of lemon with pale malt hiding a little at the back. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - another solid golden ale. There are probably 100s of beers made in this style and to this solid standard on this island. I probably couldnt pick this one out from most of the other good examples. I suppose it says something re the style being generally well carried out.

Cask at the Organ Grinder. Pours golden with thin top. Aroma pineapples and tangerines. Taste also has fruits to the foreground and an edgy spicy at the end. Light to medium body with a clean finish rather than any residue. This was Blue Monkeys breakthrough beer so Im amazed that I havent rated it before. It goes down well with the student clientele around here (those who cant afford Vedett Blonde at 4.90 a pint. A safe bet to quench the thirst

Cask at The Earl Grey Inn, Leek. A clear golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of soapy lemon, some lime, a little peach, subtle mango, coconut and herbal, grassy hops. Taste of soapy lemon, subtle lime, some pine, slight pepper, a little peach, grapefruit and herbal, grassy hops. Light bodied and an oily texture. A soft, citrusy then peppery bitterness in the finish. A decent golden ale with nice citrus and herbal hop flavours.
