3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
9/20/2013: Blue Moon Proximity... Pale straw color with quite a bit of off-white foam on top. Smells a lot like a white wine (Reisling, actually). The flavor is mostly semi-sweet Reisling with just a slight musty wheatiness hiding underneath. There is a pretty high level of carbonation, so this beer feels light and airy on the palate, not unlike Champagne. Truth be told, the alochol level is really well-hidden. Overall, this beer isn’t bad, but it’s clearly more wine than beer since the fruitiness and flavor of the white grapes dominate. Furthermore, this beer is truly way too expensive for what it is. For a truly excellent blend of beer and wine, try Dogfish Head Sixty-One! Draught sample(s) at Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #53 for this beer.
Bottle. Poured a yellow color with a small sized head. Wheat, some grape / vinous qualities, but more of a blah wheat beer - maybe it sitting on my shelf for years did it in, or maybe that made it better ... JPDIPSO (6236) - Wauwatosa, USA - JAN 25, 2017
Light straw color with a diminishing white head. Aroma of grapes, apples, and alcohol. Seem to smell like a malt liquor. With a little searching I am finding a hint of wheat and touch of herbal hops. Initial sweet start, with some grape juice and pale malt. Actually stays fairly sweet. A little acidity in the middle. A dry honey finish. 7/13

OK. Faint aroma of grape. Pretty ginger and pear color. Wine-like character in the weight and palate. Flavor was like alcoholic grape juice. Not very complex and was hoping for a little more. boozedude (2228) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - DEC 23, 2014

The wine notes are apparent in the aroma, and it blends nicely with the sweet wheat. Pours a clear light straw with a full white head. The grape juice is still there and was apparently added after fermentation was complete, as it adds a lot of sweetness. Light bodied, easy drinking. I’m surprised they got the alcohol as high as they did with this much residual sweetness. Glad I tried it, but probably would not get it again.

Pour is a clear yellow with a large white head. Aroma is a wheat ale base with some definite white grape juice. Flavor is dull and bland. Some wheat ale but none of the grapes show up. Finish is kinda thick and syrupy sweet. Picked up out of the bargain bin and that’s where this belongs. onceblind (9857) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUL 25, 2014
Clean clear golden with a head that doesn’t last at all. Musty grape-y nose with tones of wheat and nectarine and dry white wine. The flavor brings forth that punchy wheaty and nectarine-esque flavor. White wine dryness with a little boozy yeastiness. Slightly complex but not really my flavour, with the typical boozy esters you expect from a wine barrel aged project. Heathen (1500) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - JUN 20, 2014
THOUGHTS: Fairly wine-like. Nearly smack dab in between a white wine and a Belgian white beer. Hid alcohol fairly well for something so light in body and high in ABV.
TECHNICAL: Drank 3/3/2013. Bottle. Poured a sparking clear, light yellow(?) with beautiful carbonation and an average, white head that mostly diminished and left barely fair lacing. The aroma contained light grain and wheat; light to moderate doughy yeast; grape; apple; white wine; and honey. The initial flavor was moderately acidic and slightly sweet; while the finish was moderately acidic, lightly sweet and slightly bitter with a short duration. There was wheat, white wine, doughy and dusty yeast, grapes, a little apple and grain. The light to medium body was quite dry with very fizzy carbonation and a dry and lightly alcoholic finish. 60minuteman (1743) - West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 8, 2014
A sort of wine, cider, beer hybrid. Heavy on grapes and orange peel, malt, wheat, coriander. Aroma of yeast, malt, apples, grapes- more beer than anything. Thin and dry finish. This is pretty good. arminjewell (9688) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 26, 2014
