Bottle. Pours a deep coca-cola-hued clear brown body with a large cloudy off-white head. Nose is nuts, spices, nougat and hints of caramel, toffee and Belgian candi sugar. Taste is caramel, candi sugars, coca-cola, spices, bark and hints of burnt sugar, herbs and chocolate. Full body, high carbonation. Nice Xmas-like Belgian ale, but not exceptional.

Draft at Madrone’s in Frederick, MD served in a classic pils glass. Cloudy reddish-brown color with creamy off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, light Belgian yeast notes, caramel, some nuttiness and dark fruit. Taste adds notes of brown sugar, dried fruits (raisins, plums) and light spices. Medium body, low carbonation, soft with sweet berry roast finish. Not really feeling the Belgian on this one, more lightly spiced brown ale.

6oz pour at Churchkeys D.C. Pour is a murky brownish with a small white head. Aroma is some apple cider and vinegar. Flavor kinda redeems itself. A nice toffee showing itself first then comes a nice raisin and dark fruit. Finish has some fruit and brown sugar.

mmahut (1859) - CZECH REPUBLIC - JAN 2, 2015
Bottle. Dark amber body, low white hea. Aroma has nutty profile, evident strong alcohol. Taste has high bitterness, mostly earthy, sweet yeast profile. Body is full, high carbonation. Interesting profile, but little bit less balanced.

Clear amber pour with chestnut highlights and ring of near white head. Yeasty belgian style nose and a distinct spiciness in the flavor. Fruity, like dark cherry and molasses.
