caramel, raisin, clear, medium white head, reddish brown color, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, soft carbonation, long finish, sweet maltiness lingers, overall well balanced for a stronger beer. jercraigs (11071) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 13, 2015
2015-03-04. Very dark brown-black body with a small tan head. 3+ Aroma of sweet malt, light cocoa and burnt sugars. Flavour is similar, sugary brown sugar, light tang. A bit odd overall, not really to my tastes. Smooth average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Bottle shared by solidfunk. Homer321 (5248) - Melboring, Florida, USA - MAR 12, 2015
Bottle to snifter. Pour is deep, deep red, to brown; minimal off white head. Aroma is grapey and oxidized. Not sure how long this one has been cellared. Some dried fruit aroma in there too. Taste is slightly winy with a red grape flavor, prickly on the tongue. Moderate papery oxidation. Ok, but even fresh, I doubt it would impress me much. Very thin, a little alcohol, not much going on. solidfunk (9734) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - MAR 4, 2015

New Beer Distributors, NYC 12 ounce ($2.50): Pours brown with a tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, sugar, and yeast. Taste is sweet, but not excessively so. Very little hops, of course. Plenty of dark fruit flavors. Slightly burnt. Pretty good. SamP01 (668) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 17, 2014
Pours a slightly viscous deep nearly black with a medium dark tan head. Aroma and Taste is sweet dark toasted malt, Belgian yeast, some notes of dark dried fruit, plums raisins mild bitterness. A medium body, smooth mouth feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Finishes with a sweet dark mild roasted caramel malt, notes of dark dried plummy fruit and raisin a bit of tart Belgian yeast with a mild bitterness on the end. Overall a very nice tasty drinking brew. djspe (2) - Princeton, New Jersey, USA - AUG 7, 2014 does not count
This is distinctly different from most Belgian dubbels I’ve tried. It had a murkier flavor, rather than the brightness of a classic dubbel like Duvel. It’s not a bad beer at all, but I was expecting something fresher and cleaner tasting. There was something odd about the bitterness and sweet that I felt wasn’t balanced, and the mouthfeel was more syrupy than I would have liked. gripweed57 (2970) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - AUG 2, 2014
12 ounce bottle. Translucent reddish brown. Small creamy tan head. Rich roasted malt aroma hints at dark dried fruit. Rich fruity malt flavor has notes of burnt caramel and dark cherries. Some spicy hops as well. Finishes dry and chewy.
