Can in NYC. Pours clear, rich gold with a huge, off-white cream head. Sugary, bredy and lightly toasted malts on the nose, with notes of fading pine. It tastes alright, medium sweet with bready malts, suggestions of caramel, a bit of dry grass and pine, mellow earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately sweet and faintly resinous to finish, with nips of caramel, toasted bread and piney, herbal bitterness. Not bad.

Can. A hazy, dark golden beer with a small, dense, off-white head leaving some curtains. The aroma is rather piney and grapefruity, with some malty notes in the back. Bread hints. It’s full-bodied, smooth and pleasantly carbonated, semi-dry. Nice bitterness in the flavor, some lightly bready malts in the back, and pine cones and grapefruit up front. Lasting finish with some orange zest, grapefruit and bitterness. A bit sweeter than I prefer, but sure a nice one. 150618

60 IBU!!!! Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Amber color with a decent white head. Aromas of lightly roasted caramel, florality and fruitiness. Near medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is roast malt with resin, floral and fruit hop. The bitter seems to come from roasted malt as much as from hop. It’s nicely bitter, and finishes arguably balanced. It’s tasty, and I wouldn’t turn down another. Fresh hoppiness with each mouthful.

A copper amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel with light veggie notes, light cinnamon, faint hops. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with woody notes, burned character, herbal hops, OK. On tap at Ginger Man NYC, Sept 21, 2012.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours clear bronze with small, thick, persistent head. Lacing is good. Aroma of pine and citrus. Good hop taste without coming on too strong. Damn, did the brewery itself really open just two days ago? The wine coming out of Nelson County, Virginia is outstanding. Good to see that beer promises to be just as good.8/4/7/4/15

Rerate 9/6/08. This is their wet-hopped version of the beer. The brewery says there was no recipe change outside the wet-hopping, so, no new beer entry. Draft at the brewery. Hazy brownish red color with a one finger head. Aroma is malt-forward with big resin hop notes. Very bitter taste (the beer menu says 60 IBUs still, but I don’t believe them) with resinous hop notes, pine, citrus, other fruit notes and toffee. Spicy mouthfeel and medium to full body. 7/4/8/4/15
