Nice murky orange amber color when poured. Very full flavor without tasting too "thick". Dark chocolate undertones are a nice aftertaste. Wife liked it. themaker75 (8) - - SEP 6, 2014 does not count
Nice and full bodied. The bourbon barrel does not overpower the beer. Perfect for a cool night.

Draft at the VA Craft Brewers Festival, Devils Backbone, 8/24/13. Pours a hazy orange color with a large creamy white head. Good head retention. Aroma of pumpkin, chocolate, whiskey, herbal hops. The taste is chocolate, mild pumpkin, whiskey, caramel, spice. Medium bodied, subtle, well balanced. Very nice. chandler0201 (650) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - AUG 28, 2013
Dark orange pour with small white head. Aroma of pumpkin, chocolate, whiskey, and some vanilla extract. Flavor is of pumpkin, with hints of chocolate, coffee, whiskey, and some cinnamon and caramel. Reminded me a bit of an alcoholic pumpkin coffee. Very smooth finish and alcohol is well masked. Great beer! Emeister84 (2505) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - AUG 31, 2013
Aromas of chocolate, pumpkin, peanut butter, and subtle raisin. Hazy dull orange, or light poo poo brown, with a mostly lasting, bubbly white head. Chocolate, vanilla, and bourbon right up front, some pumpkin but pretty subtle, flavors are very well integrated. Medium bodied, smooth, with fluffy carbonation, and a vanilla and soft pumpkin finish.

Bottle into a goblet. Pours a nice orange/amber, fluffy white head and light lacing. Very pleasant vanilla aroma with hints of spice and fresh pumpkin. Taste is creamy vanilla, spice, pumpkin, slight booze burn, a bit of oak. Incredibly smooth and drinkable. Not a pumpkin pie bomb by any means. Such a refreshing change of pace for fall seasonal beers. FROTHINGSLOSH (7796) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 18, 2013
Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a murky orange-brown color with a huge very creamy orange-cream head that lingered forever and left great lacing. The aroma was faint with sweet orange . The flavor was sweet and malty with moderate ripe fruits, chocolate and bourbon. Long finish of creamy chocolate and bourbon. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Alcohol well hidden. Very nice. evanheon (7) - - OCT 16, 2014 does not count
Boozier than expected, and not very pumpkiny. But a very tasty fall beer! Gotta love blue mountain superspak (5593) - Michigan, USA - DEC 8, 2014
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 11/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy reddish orange color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness. Light oak/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, pumpkin, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, gingerbread, vanilla, toffee, oak, bourbon, light cocoa, and herbal/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice barrel aged imperial pumpkin ale style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, pumpkin/spices, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering. jgb9348 (6250) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - OCT 13, 2015
Dark brown coloured body with a rich and dense ligth brown head, about four centimetres tall. Aroma of allspice, canella, cloves and a good dose of nutmeg, all with a lot of rich peaty malt and some noticeable caramelised sugars. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich malt flavours abound with a good deal of spices and a lot of sweetness at the end. Aftertaste shows caramel, toffee, pit fruits, malt and a lot of spices that permeate and a soft alcohol warmth at the end. Overall, a very nice spiced beer with a rich flavour throughout and a nice complexity. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Costco in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 21-August-2015 for US$8,99 sampled in the mountains of Shenendoah National Park on 19-September-2015.
