COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Truly worthy its majestic name in fluid ounces, our Sour Cherry Imperial Stout is anything but sour. In fact, we have to make sure there’s plenty of it available for Valentine’s Day – after all, nothing says love like chocolates and a Sour Cherry Imperial Stout. This is an extremely complex version of the classic Russian beer style with plenty of roasted, black, and chocolate malts that delivers multi-layered coffee and sherry notes in a surprisingly smooth package. The beer is then matured with just a kiss of real sour red cherries. If you see Sour Cherry Imperial Stout on tap, give it a try – like true love, it’s sometimes hard to find.

On tap at Tap and Mallet. This goblet of beer came with a black color with a touch of red at the edges and almost no head at all. The aroma was sour cherry, a touch of malt and a hint of molasses. The flavor was an intriguing mix of roasty malts and tangy cherry with a malty middle and a long light cherry finish. Very interesting.

Draft at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep opaque brown-black body, medium creamy light brown head. Light roasty, chocolaty aroma. Inky body with tannic, slightly tart cherry, on the dry side with modest sweetness. Enjoyable but safe.

Strong malt aroma with a very light amount of cherry. Black color with a medium brown head. Sweet beginning with a light bitter finish.

Draft in snifter; I didn’t pick up chocolate, cherry, or any fruitiness. All in all it was a decent imperial stout that I would drink when available.

Draft. Deep black color. Smells of cherry and booze. Tastes like a chocolate covered cherry with a tart finish. Lighter then I’d expect. Really good

A Sim rate (on tap at Idle Hands, NYC): Smells like mon cherie chocolates. Like a treat that seems good in theory but actually turns out to be a sweet and bitter mistake. Flavour is nicely sweet & sour with cherry, chocolate & caramel. The flavours don’t ever properly mix but mingle side-by-side in a way that leaves the palate undecided. Enjoyed it, but don’t think I’d have another.

smooth and substantial in body. sweet enough and chocolate with some hop initially. cherry flavor and finish makes you think you had cherry right with the vine still attached. nice clean brew that morphs through the flavor pattern and takes you for a little ride then lets you down a little sharp.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2012 Smells a bit tart, not quite sour. You know those sour warheads? Or sour gushers? Well I dont think ive had them but I imagine the sour in those is similar to the sour in this. Not very sour. Not blue. I like arrested development though and tobias is awesome. So this misadvertisement will be overlooked. There are not any cherries either. But this beer is alright. I like interesting things.

BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 5, 2012
On tap at Whole Foods Columbus Circle. Pours with a near black body with red highlights and a small tan head that is quick to fade. Aromas are of cola, cherry, brown sugar, vanilla, roasty and a touch estery. Flavors are of brown sugar, cherry, cherry cola, chocolate. Somewhat aggressive roast character. Sweeter, nearly dried cherry as it warms. Medium to low carbonation, fuller bodied, a bit ashy and chalky. Warming.

Jow (3894) - New York, USA - DEC 4, 2011
On tap at Delaney’s in New Haven. Pours dark reddish brown with nice head. Nose is of dark fruits and cocoa. Tastes of tart cherry, raspberries, dark chocolate, earth, and cola. Not too sour nor overly fruity but a solid offering from blue point
