COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Truly worthy its majestic name in fluid ounces, our Sour Cherry Imperial Stout is anything but sour. In fact, we have to make sure theres plenty of it available for Valentines Day after all, nothing says love like chocolates and a Sour Cherry Imperial Stout. This is an extremely complex version of the classic Russian beer style with plenty of roasted, black, and chocolate malts that delivers multi-layered coffee and sherry notes in a surprisingly smooth package. The beer is then matured with just a kiss of real sour red cherries. If you see Sour Cherry Imperial Stout on tap, give it a try like true love, its sometimes hard to find.

A Sim rate (on tap at Idle Hands, NYC): Smells like mon cherie chocolates. Like a treat that seems good in theory but actually turns out to be a sweet and bitter mistake. Flavour is nicely sweet & sour with cherry, chocolate & caramel. The flavours dont ever properly mix but mingle side-by-side in a way that leaves the palate undecided. Enjoyed it, but dont think Id have another.

smooth and substantial in body. sweet enough and chocolate with some hop initially. cherry flavor and finish makes you think you had cherry right with the vine still attached. nice clean brew that morphs through the flavor pattern and takes you for a little ride then lets you down a little sharp.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2012 Smells a bit tart, not quite sour. You know those sour warheads? Or sour gushers? Well I dont think ive had them but I imagine the sour in those is similar to the sour in this. Not very sour. Not blue. I like arrested development though and tobias is awesome. So this misadvertisement will be overlooked. There are not any cherries either. But this beer is alright. I like interesting things.

On tap at Whole Foods Columbus Circle. Pours with a near black body with red highlights and a small tan head that is quick to fade. Aromas are of cola, cherry, brown sugar, vanilla, roasty and a touch estery. Flavors are of brown sugar, cherry, cherry cola, chocolate. Somewhat aggressive roast character. Sweeter, nearly dried cherry as it warms. Medium to low carbonation, fuller bodied, a bit ashy and chalky. Warming.

On tap at Delaneys in New Haven. Pours dark reddish brown with nice head. Nose is of dark fruits and cocoa. Tastes of tart cherry, raspberries, dark chocolate, earth, and cola. Not too sour nor overly fruity but a solid offering from blue point

On tap at Plan B - Glastonbury, CT. Aroma gives a distinct tart cherry aroma, with a solid stout base behind. Flavors are good and express a real clean fresh, tart pie cherry character, well married with the underlying stout. Its a bit sweet, but the acidity fights that off a bit. I really appreciate the original quality to the cherry flavor. Nice fruit work and a good sipper.

On Draught, Clear brown, quite light for the style. Aromas of coffee, cherries and tobacco. Light body for the style. Coffee flavors, smoky and faint fruit. Overall very weak for the style.

Draft Pours basically black with a small, creamy, khaki head that lasts pretty much throughout the session. I have a hard time getting a grip on the subtle aromatics, but am finally able to pull some chocolate crme and rumors of tobacco, light molasses and cola from the glass. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. The flavor is very roasty, quite sweet and fairly chocolaty with additional notations of charcoal and tobacco. Quite a bit of black malt bitterness to throw a semblance of balance into the mix, but this brew still leans sweet. Finishes bittersweet with the bitterness lingering a bit longer than any other component. Drinks mainly like an imperial milk stout. In no facet of this beer did I pick up any cherry essence at all. Good, but not really as advertised.

Draft at the brass tap. Pous a dark blackish color with a tan head with a dark chocolate, coffe and cherry aroma. The flavor profile agrees with the aroma, but a nice hint of sour cherries as the aftertaste.
