COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Truly worthy its majestic name in fluid ounces, our Sour Cherry Imperial Stout is anything but sour. In fact, we have to make sure there’s plenty of it available for Valentine’s Day – after all, nothing says love like chocolates and a Sour Cherry Imperial Stout. This is an extremely complex version of the classic Russian beer style with plenty of roasted, black, and chocolate malts that delivers multi-layered coffee and sherry notes in a surprisingly smooth package. The beer is then matured with just a kiss of real sour red cherries. If you see Sour Cherry Imperial Stout on tap, give it a try – like true love, it’s sometimes hard to find.

[email protected], Stockholm. Black colour, big creamy beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, coffee, some smoked wet wood as well as some mild notes of cherries. Flavour is quite much the same and also has some liquorice and tarry notes in addition. Cherries barely show in this brew.

Bottle. Dull brown color, coca-cola head. Aroma of chocolate muffin. Tastes like sour root beer. Interesting, and probably worth trying again.

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. Almost black, rich creamy head. Tarry nose with fruity black currant. Sweet and very full bodied, soft with amounts of roasty malt coming across as tar and licorice. The sour cherries are subtle in comparison, making this a harmonious despite the somewhat crazy concept. Perhaps the overt sweetness disturbs a little bit in the finish.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Pours black with a substantial, beige head. Roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and faint berry. Flavor is sweet with rich with more roast and mocha, as well as some understated cherry. Medium to full bodied with very smooth carbonation. Finishes roasty and sweet with some dry bitterness. Quite good.

Draught at Rattle&Hum. Pitch black beer with a nice lasting brownish head. Malty roasted aroma, quite spicy, chilli, pepper, licorice, some cherries, tar, sourish, chocolate, some figs. Malty cherry flavor, spicy, viol, licorice, chocolate, berries, cocoa powder, pepper, vinous, some hoppy metal. Interesting but maybe lacking some body. Malty vinous finish with spices, cherries and chocolate.

Bottle. Poured dark reddish brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted chocolate malt, sour cherry aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted malt and cherry flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate. Solid brew that met my expectations.

Draft. Small tan head atop brown/black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, cherry, light duskiness. Taste is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, cherry, light sourness, wood. Smooth medium body, alcohol well contained. A tasty beer despite the relative absence of the sourness mentioned in the beer’s name.
