on tap at work at Mermaid Juice:
i was going to review this last night but needed to wait. i came in yesterday seeing this keg next in line to go on after a stout that will not be named - and all night i was stoked for a SOUR. CHERRY. IMPERIAL. STOUT... and so when we tapped it i was disappointed. i was prepared for it to be super sour, super cherry etc... and it’s definitely not.
so 24 hours later giving it the real deal review... i dig it. it smells a little phenolic for me but other than that super roast with a little of that sour-hint and then just tastes like a good stout. i wouldn’t characterize it as imperial if the bottle didnt say it. it’s good. definitely good. and daneaux here says the fact that the sour cherry is subtle is what’s good about it and he’s right probably. on draught still... come tell me why i’m wrong.
Bottle from Publix, Sarasota. Pours a deep coffee-colored black with a medium beige head. Nose is rich malt and chocolate with a hint of dark fruits. Taste is dark chocolate and malt with the sour cherry coming only in the first sip...after that it was greatly diminished but faintly present. Body was rich, thick, and oily. Finishes on malty chocolate notes, much like a Korbinian only sweeter. Thoroughly enjoyable and delicious! jjgmd (2248) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - JAN 21, 2017
On tap, at Brass Tap, Coral Springs with Audrie, pours a deep black dark red pour with a small beige head . Nose is rich malt and chocolate. Taste is smoky chocolate and malt but not much sourness or cherry ...which may be because I am puffing a cigar. Finishes on malty chocolate notes, dryly with a short finish. Expected much more . Bomber. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Somewhat thin palate for an impy stout. Slight alcohol taste though not an overly high abv. Cherry notes were very subtle. OK DocJitsu (2035) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - DEC 25, 2016
Pours a very dark brown with an ample taupe-tan head. Head retention is average to good. Dark roast malt, dark chocolate, charred wood on the nose. Good balance of sweet, sour, and bitter. Charred wood, dark chocolate, cherry flavors. Soft carbonation overlies the a moderately thick brew. ChadPolenz (1847) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - DEC 16, 2016

AROMA: General dark malt presence, but no roasted malt per se. Low amount of cherry aroma. Some alcohol is present. No distinctive hops. Mild nose overall. 7/12
APPEARANCE: Deep brown to black with ruby red highlights. Large tan froth retains and laces well. 3/3
FLAVOR: Mildly sweet with dark malt throughout. No roasted character and bitterness is quite low. Slight mint taste on the backend. Some black licorice in the aftertaste. Cherry is present, but is subtle and not sour at all. Palette is entirely too weak and pedestrian. 10/20
MOUTHFEEL: Only medium bodied for 9.2%. Carbonation is low. Texture is smooth but watery. Finishes very clean. Some alcohol warmth. 2/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: A wimpy impy stout base and a poor fruity addition. Tastes old but bottle was fresh. 4/10
TOTAL SCORE: 26/50
Tap at cock and bull, sarasota. Black color, tanned head. Aroma has coffee, chocolate, some berries. Full roasty body, chocolate, berries, hint of alcohol. Mep3222 (1636) - East Greenbush, New York, USA - SEP 25, 2016
Smooth malty stout. Roasted malt with slight sweet smoothness. Mild cherry comes through in the finish but sometimes adds a bit of a medicine feel to the finish. I like it overall but some down points. But still solid for an imperial.

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thin messy lacing running all around the glass. Moderate light filmy lacing glosses all about.
The smell starts off with a sly roasty chocolate and then leads to a slight sticky sweet to sour cherry. Subtle sticky tart. Some roastiness.
The flavor leans towards a nice balance between the sour, the sweet and the roastiness. Pulls the chocolate sweetness more than adequately.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body. Sour-ness is super tame. So....some stickiness ends up coming across in the feel, but acceptable at least to me.
Overall, as an Imperial stout this one works. The so-called "sour cherry" may just end up leaning towards the "sweeter side." Did I have this too late? Hmmmm...wishing they would have put on dates on the bottle. gattullo (12) - - APR 3, 2016
Not a lot of sour cherry taste but you really pick up the chocolate in this one. Steve_0 (3818) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUL 24, 2015
Botte at home with Jason. Pour is deep brown, almost black with a small tan head and decent lacing. Super oxidated, cardboard, light cocoa, some roast, tangy, cherries, raisins, and marshmallows in the aroma. Taste is tangy, red wine vinegar, chocolate, some pepper, roasty, graham crackers, and brown sugar with a medium tart finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Meh.
