Bottle @mondial de la bière. A dark beer with medium creamy head. Nose is amazing on hops (columbus ?) and chocolate. Aroma has licorice, cinamom and anise notes, complex with grassy, spicy and resin hops. Very pleasant, sweet and syrupy, long aftertaste on resin and dry fruits. Excellent. Bottle. Near pitch black pour with a short, foamy tan head. Floral and citrus hops atop roasted malt, soft pine and burnt caramel. Taste is big citrus fruit, roasted malt, pine, sweet malt, dark chocolate notes in the background and burnt caramel. Body is medium with a soft creamy carbonation and a mild, lingering hop bitterness. Ends with more citrus notes, pine resins, roasted malt, burnt caramel, dark chocolate and floral hops. it does have a clean flavor of hop in the mix. With flavors of malt really super toasted like coconut that loses it’s normal flavor pattern and an herb and ivy style hop bitterness. It’s that clean flavor you first get from a mothball but it is a fleeting flavor seemingly sterile. deep enough carob and malt flavors the brew is refreshing and different enough. Draft at Mae Mex. Pours black with a thin brown head. Thin mouthfeel. I definitely get a bit of pine sol on the nose. The hop bitterness seems to be tempered by the sheer maltiness of it. Interesting still emerging style. Beerman6686 (6607) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 7, 2011
This poured a very dark brown color with a smaller beige head. Aroma was lots if citrus and herbal hops, and medium roasted malt. Flavor was hops forward, the roastedness give it some balance from being a straigh ipa. I really like the hop profile in this one.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aromas of roasted malts and grapefruit. Flavor is slightly sweet with notes of grapefruit, roasted malts and a touch of chocolate. Not a great Black IPA but decent.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2013 GABF 2011 and re-rate from pint-sized can March 2013. Pours dark brown with black highlights, a medium, fizzy and bubbly light tan head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is chocolate and coffee malt with notes of dates, earthy and floral hops, some pine/resin notes. Flavor is bitter dark malt, roast and chocolate, earthy hops, leather yeast and a dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation. gsmitty80 (2130) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 5, 2011
Nice black IPA. Good thick malt and a high hop flavor that kicks pretty hard. Nice and chewy and enjoyable. lithy (2996) - Capital of Appalachia, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 29, 2011
I have to say that this isn’t the most appealing name for a beer ever. It is a brown-red color with an off white foam. Aroma is of mostly roast, chocolate, some light grassy hops. Taste is very similar and would make me say hoppy porter before I said Black IPA, and in this case, this is why I really like this beer. Jow (4030) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 27, 2011
On tap at Stagshead, despite the terrible name for this beer I really liked it. pours nice cola color, and tastes of hop bitterness, coffee, oatmeal, malt, grapefruits, and pine. one of better bluepoints
